The problem with the media is that they are fixated on "radical Islam" (no such thing, btw). They don't spend time with moderate Muslims, then wonder why they don't hear them over the din of their own creation.

i actually watched a great video on memri.org a few days ago about moderate islam... people who have the guts to speak out! major props to them. i hope there are more and more like them who become outspoken in the muslim world.

There are lots of outspoken practicing Muslims in the Muslim world. The media ignores them. For the "opposition", they seem to prefer non-Muslims who know little about Islam, but can either display a grudge or sell a book, or apostates and secular Muslims full of complaints that Islam doesn't condone homosexuality or bikini wearing.

I have to seriously wonder about the ability of corporate mass media to open anyone's eyes about anything.

In hind sight, there is nothing worse than people using blogs or other biased nobody, answer to no one, websites for their source of news..

The problem with the media is that they are fixated on "radical Islam" (no such thing, btw). They don't spend time with moderate Muslims, then wonder why they don't hear them over the din of their own creation.

What I can not stand about the middle east is how anything about islam is wrong, biased, made up by Israel and america. You know the usual stock-standard excuses.

Yet any hearsay against the US or Israel is always 100% true, no ifs or buts about it, period...

I agree, but equally bad (and much more pervasive) is the general reliance on one or two big networks the choice of which is often dictated by partisan loyalty.

Anyone see the last episode of Scrubs? For once, over the last 7 years, a TV show / movie actually cracked political jokes about both sides of politics rather than picking one side, which is usually republicans. It was a really funny show...

It got me thinking though how very rarely do I see right wing TV hosts attack or joke on their left wing rivals. Yet 99.9% of time I flick to John Stewart, Keith Olberman etc they are joking on and / or attacking Bill Oreily, Glen Beck, Hannity etc.. It is like they have nothing else to say but attack their rivals. Much like calling the smarter kid at school a nerd or dork..

Almost every episode of Bill O'Reilly's and Sean Hannity's shows (at least as often I've seen them, which isn't often) contains some sort of indictment of the "hard left", characterised this week by Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, whose cherry picked quotations (trite as they were) were used to debunk anyone "anti-war".

You're seriously telling me that Ann Coulter, Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh don't make a living out of savaging "liberals", or can go a whole hour without mentioning that word once?

I wouldn't bet too many dimes on that BTW....

Perhaps people should start caring more about actual "news" and less about the "personalities" who read it & editorialise.
