It is nice when old people can look back and see their mistakes and have regrets. I will forgive but I will never forget her traitorous act.

Spot on.

and I don't think she has ever asked for forgiveness, only admitted it was a mistake. She should have been tried for treason.

I will forgive Jane Fonda when the Jews forgive Hitler

It's unlikely to say the least that a 70 odd year old woman is going to be charged for something controversial that she did in her youth. Better to live and let live, certainly less stressful.

I do find it interesting that out of the stain that was the Vietnam war that this is the sort of thing is that people obsess over. The USAs involvement in Vietnam and Cambodia is directly linked to the Khmer Rough genocide, one of the worst mass murders in history. I'd say that's a bit more relevant than pinning the blame for everything on one old woman.

If I was an American in the 60s I'd have burned my passport.

Which would have meant you could not leave the country. Burning your passport would accomplish what ?

As usual long on venom and short on common sense

I suppose it might depend on where you were when you did it.

Play it again maestro.

There is nothing she can be charged with for she did nothing illegal and despite charged rhetoric of a few. Her opinion, and that of most of the country was unpopular at the time. She was against a war the US should never have got involved in, and you only need to look at thousands of Vietnam vets who, to this date, live with the consequences of that war.

If you wanted to protest, burning your draft card would have been more effective and louder than burning your passport. People weren't against the war because they weren't Americans. On the contrary, they were against it because they knew that it had nothing to do with American ideals.

Certainly. I struggle with the idea that Vietnam, as with the Iraq war, can be justified in terms of patriotism. Or more specifically, that people should confuse patriotism with support of dodgy wars.

And yes you are right, there are no charges to answer. The war was unpopular and it proved to be a unmitigated disaster for the US and many families whose relatives were forced to fight for a dubious geopolitical agenda.

Its yet another example of the over reliance on irrelevant trivia that people have whenever there's something involving the troops. Saw it here between 2002 and 2008, this idea that because of 9/11 anything was justified. The result of that of course is untold misery for millions in the countries affected.

The UK/US governments of the day can be well congratulated for the likes of ISIS. The real crime is that Bush, Cheney and Blair will never be held accountable. Bastards.
