In 1972 Fonda visited Hanoi, North Vietnam, where she criticized attacks on the dike system along the Red River. A U.S. investigation later revealed the publicity of these bombings as propaganda. Fonda’s statements and a photograph of her sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft battery outraged many Americans and veterans, leading many to call her “Hanoi Jane” and a “traitor.” http://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/jane-fonda-on-vietnam-war-comments-i-made-a-huge-huge-mistake-1.324409

Look how far the terrorist Bill Ayers went. ... Just wants the same .... Traitorous acts are still traitorous acts, She earned her title of Hanoi Jane....Should have been arrested and shot when she stepped off the plane .

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

We all knew she was never against the soldiers. Good for her she could set the record straight after all these years.

Jane Fonda said she hoped for an open dialogue with veterans after about 50 former military members and supporters protested the actress’s appearance Friday evening at the Weinberg Center for the Arts.

“Whenever possible I try to sit down with vets and talk with them, because I understand and it makes me sad,” Fonda told a relatively full theater, responding to a submitted question. “It hurts me and it will to my grave that I made a huge, huge mistake that made a lot of people think I was against the soldiers.”

Ya think?

Yeah well, the USA for all its faults is not and has never been a totalitarian state where people are summarily executed without even the semblance of legal process.

I find it really interesting that you complain about the evils of Isis and violent extremists when the ideas you yourself promote are not that far removed. Corporal punishment, death by firing squad and public hanging, trial by public opinion, dehumanise people that you feel deserve it, all of these ideas can be found in the third reach, in Soviet Russia and communist China.

Quite why you think this represents the best that the USA has to offer beggars belief

It is nice when old people can look back and see their mistakes and have regrets. I will forgive but I will never forget her traitorous act.

Yes, but she did look cute in Barbarella. I think she taught me to objectify women and not take their opinions seriously.

Agreed.

It's ok to be a violent extremist so long as you're on the right team.

If you think she acted upon something traitorous, your memory fails you and chances are you remember that which never take place. The controversy involving Jane Fonda and the Vietnam war center on what she said, not on what she did. In fact, she said wha was in the psyche of most Americans: We were fighting a war with no purpose, and one we could not win. The problem is that her comments came through as though she were placing the responsibility on the soldiers, not on their CIC, but most of us knew what she meant, even if she didn't articulate it in that manner.

I don't blame her for the war, as much as I blame the Democrats in Congress for not allowing Nixon victory in a war he already won, by refusing to continue to support our allies in South Vietnam, even after the Communists in North of Vietnam had all but capitulated in Paris. The war itself was probably unnecessary, however, by the time Nixon was in charge, it was hard to put that genie back in the bottle, once Johnson escalated the war Kennedy foolishly got us into for his hatred of all things Communist.

Oceania was always at war with Eurasia! How can anyone forget it?!

NEVER FORGET (RE)WRITTEN HISTORY!

OK then.

It is a historical fact. Victory in Vietnam came down to a vote in Congress, and the Democrats decided not to win,
