Hi, I have come up against a wall regarding the Affidavit of Support. My US fiancé is on state benefit and so falls under the level of poverty by around $3-4,000. So we are of the understanding that in these instances we require a co-sponsor??? I have around $15,000 in my own savings. So here are a few questions I would like to ask you guys;

1) Do I need a sponsor?

2) If so, if I need a co-sponsor do they have to be related to my US fiancé?

3) Can I sponsor myself with my savings?

4) If so, how do I do this?

Looking forward to your replies

This is a LONDON answer.

If his/her income fell short by $4,000 then 3x$4000 would be needed in assets to make up for that. I believe London will consider your money. They allow people to self-sponsor with no fiancé I-134, so why not allow some of your money to get over the hump. Bring your proof in the form of a bank statement or such. If it is in multiple accounts, make a spreadsheet so they can easily see the total. London has also accepted only 100% of the poverty level. It is a subjective decision so it does depend on what the officer that day allows. I am just telling you they are pretty flexible.

I don't know what the thoughts will be on state assistance. Is that the only income? They may ask questions or want to know more about it, how long it will last, etc. A benefit letter showing amount and such would be a good idea.

I don't know if $15,000 is enough to totally self-sponsor. They don't have a published amount. I know around $40k up has passed before. It would be great if you would ask that question on the day just to help others with your experience. Ask if your $15k alone would be acceptable without any other sponsor.
