Further Background/Name Checks at NVC & Consulate? [split topic]

Can someone please confirm exactly what happens at NVC?

Do they repeat the same name checks down by USCIS (wouldn't surprise me)?

Do they simply make sure the Petition is in order and then forward it to the embassy?

I'm very confused by this stage of the process. In fact, I previously did not know the NVC existed. I thought petitions went from USCIS directly to the embassy. Ha! What a fool to think thing would be that simple.

Their job is to make sure all of our information is correct and in order before our interview. That's why we get checklists or things to correct, so the embassies don't have to waste time checking each detail on our tax returns, etc.

I believe they do all the same checks USCIS did, run our names through the different databases, and also collect new information. Like the police certificates, passport scans, birth certificates, and all the financial info. USCIS doesn't ask for any of that, they just want us to prove our relationship. Then NVC asks for all the background stuff on the immigrant, and all the financial stuff on the petitioner, to make sure we won't be reliant on the government.

Because they make sure all of this is in order and "case complete" before our interview, it makes the embassies jobs quicker and easier. Can you imagine them sitting down and having to go over all our tax info, background checks, etc, and come up with a mistake? It would be all that time and effort for us to be sent back to correct something. So NVC does this before we get there.

Although I'm not entirely sure, I belive less is done at NVC for K1 filiers than for all others (?). The sample embassy letters I've found (via this fantastic website!) to K1 beneficiers indicates basically all the checklist items you noted above are handled at the embassy...

Any further input on the NVC parameters and jurisdiction, both for K1's and other visa, much appreciated!
