I am US citizen. I have petitioned for my parent back home in India. Case is at NVC level. Waiting for Case number.

Question is: for Police clearance certificate, do my parent need to wait for NVC to generate case number and complete DS-260, or Can they apply for Police certificate with out any receipt from NVC and get PCC as it is valid for one year?

I want them to fill the form for Police Clearance Certificate and start the process get PCC, so by the time they fill their DS 260 they can send copy of PCC with IV packet( Civil Document)

Hi k4devdas,

Yes now would be the perfect time to get the PCC document as you will need to send it with the IV packet to the NVC

Delay in getting and sending the orignal copy will significantly delay your case.

Ask your parents to go to the passport office and apply for the PCC. If they are applying in the same city where the passport was issued they will be able to get the PCC on the same day.

If they are applying in some other city then it will take atleast a month minimum to acquire the same. Do it as early as possible to avoid delay in sending the IV packet.

Good Luck on your case.

If your father-in-law has stayed in a specific country for up to or more than a year he would have to obtain a PCC from that specific country. Anything less than a year a PCC is not required though you must speak to the operator at NVC just to confirm

@AOD....thank for response. but for PCC do they need any kind of receipt or documentation from NVC? especially for India.

Also one mroe question: who schedules inteview for India? is NVC schedule interview or I have to schedule interview with vfs for India?

@k4devdas

There isn't any documentary requirement from the NVC to apply for a PCC.

Just need to fill out the online form for the required PSK and carry necessary documents.

As far as I remember the documents include passport, birth certificates, electricity bills from the previous 2-3 years, passport size photos and at least two different photo ID proofs. I had carried everything possible that showed my DOB, address and identification.

As for your second query once your case is completed NVC will schedule the interview for you at the consulate you have indicated on your petition. However you will have to schedule the medical and biometrics appointment yourself based on what the main consulate interview date has been appointed. For scheduling the biometrics at the VAC you will need to go to ustraveldocs website.

Good luck on your petition and hopefully a speedy CC.
