Hey all,

My fiance (Uk citizen) and I (US citizen) are going to be applying for his K-1 visa in the near future as I've mentioned in previous posts and we are concerned about him having Crohns. ( If you don't know what it is here is the wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crohn%27s_disease) It is not contagious, it is a chronic condition he has had for years. His crohns is under control with long term meds but he is having surgery to remove part of his bowel. Will him having crohns and having surgery hinder us in any way? Please help! xx

The issues I see would be financial.

The disease won't affect him getting a visa directly; there is a chance that at the visa interview, or later at the AOS stage, that they will ask for evidence you can pay for his long term medical treatment- either with increasing the usual 125% of poverty line, or that you have medical insurance you can add him to.

Getting insurance on your spouse depends on what kind of insurance he plans on getting. Every insurance carrier has different rules. My work provides family insurance and generally accepts all pre-exsisitng conditions. So if my fiance had a pre-exsisitng medical condition, I would venture to guess he and his conditon would be covered by my insurance as soon as we were married. You will need to ask your insurance provider or whoever he plans on buying insurance with what are their conditions are when accepting new clients.

If you have a job with insurance, check with them. Most will accept marriage as a "life altering event", and you can add your then-husband to insurance immiediately, even with the pre-exisiting condition (of course your premiums may go up). I believe for Obamacare, he'd need to be a greencard holder, so that will be half a year or more after marriage and filing AOS, but not sure.

IF they ask for the added income (and they may not, especially if he has experience/education which means he will likely get a well paying job himself), there is no set amount but they may want to see that you have an idea of insurance premiums he'll need to pay, and that you can cover that above the 125%.

Obamacare you need to have filed for a GC, people seem to have problems in practice.

I can't think of anybody (since 2008) that I have read about, going through London who was asked to provide insurance info prior to getting a K visa. I don't know of any with Crohns, but some with diabetes, high blood pressure, prior cancer, Asperger's syndrome, and other ongoing conditions.

He will need to provide some documentation from his GP about his history, medication, and surgery In a short report format to the visa medical exam doctor. The visa doctor always wants more info when it is something they can't assess in a short one-time exam, Taking it to the exam will save having to get it later when the visa doc says he needs more info.

Hi,

i would like to know if your visa was approved, knowing you fiance's health condition. If so, did you guys had to present extra documentation?

My husband has also cronh but is totally under control. He just takes his regular medication, never had cirurgy and has been out of symptoms for almost 6 years now.

Thank you very much!

Regards,

Diana.
