at&t's fiber optics (whats the other name, i can't remember) is a joke, hasn't been available over the last five years - in the three different rentals i've lived in. but we still have pretty large areas where highspeed internet isn't available from anyone at all, despite all these large areas being in america - which i assume makes us number one in internet access..

Internet access in the US is a sad joke. Slow, spotty and expensive are the words that come to mind. All thanks to the large cable companies having set it up so that they do not have to compete. They can just bill the consumer too much money for sub-standard connections and - for total lack of competition - get away with it.

exactly. my bff lives on a farm, way off the road. has to get hughesnet. they pay almost 90 dollars a month for one week of internet service a month (it's all used up in a week).
