My mom was born in Macau and the birth certificate is in Portuguese and Chinese. I want to ask how to find a certified translator. I went onto American translator association and those live close by are all not ATA certified. Is it ok?

I also know a lot of Portuguese. Can I just ask one of them to translate and sign a statement for that? Thanks.

You can do a certified translation if you are competent in Portuguese and English.

Follow the USCIS translation block. Google it.

There is no need for a professional translator or certified translator if you can do the translation yourself.

You can do it yourself. Attach an affidavit stating that you are fluent in both languages and the translation is full and complete.
