Applying for AP... Do I need Supplemental document?

Hi all!

I am applying for AP while my AOS application is pending. Silly me, to not apply for it along with the application. So here's the question:

Do I need to include the supplemental document listed on VisaJourney explaining why I am leaving? It is not a family emergency or anything, my brother is getting married this summer and I would like to be there. I've seen differing opinions on here whether or not to include it, so I'm split. Part of me wants to, but the other part doesn't want to give USCIS more information than they need (ie, if they see it isn't for a family emergency they deny it).

--> document I'm referring to is listed on this page under I-131 (http://www.visajourney.com/content/examples)

Any thoughts or opinions?

Thanks guys!

No reason for leaving is needed when filing AP. You also do not need any supplemental documentation.

No you do not need that supplemental letter. We applied without any family emergencies. We basically just wrote on the actual application that we want the option to visit older parents in case of emergency while I-485 is pending and that was approved with no problem. We did not provide any prospective dates of travel either. Just send in the application, any documents requested in the application instruction page, and a copy of the NOA1 for I-485 to prove its pending.

Hope this helps.

No explanation or reason is needed when filing the I-131 with a pending I-485 as an adjustment applicant. It states this in the instructions on page 8.

See the OR between #2 and #3. If you are filing the I-131 with the I-485, then you need nothing. If filing the I-131 after the I-485, then no reason statement and a copy of the receipt notice from filing the I-1485 is all you need.

c. Advance Parole Document
If you are in the United States, you must attach:
(1) A copy of any document issued to you by USCIS showing your present status, if any, in the United States; and

(2) An explanation or other evidence showing the circumstances that warrant issuance of an Advance Parole
Document; or

(3) If you are an applicant for adjustment of status, a copy of a USCIS receipt as evidence that you filed the
adjustment application;
