I know Val won't waste her time, but maybe I can shine some light on this.

What some gun owners don't realize is, guns aren't the all-out solution to problems such as this. If the Jewish people had guns, then what? How far would they have gotten? What about jobs? Food? Shelter? Everyday living? There was a large Anti-Jewish movement going on, and I'd go out on a limb to say there were way more Germans than Jewish people living in Germany at the time. And a large percentage thought Adolf was on to something. That's how 6+ million people were wiped off the map.

The same theory was floated around about slavery back in the day. If the slaves had guns, they'd be ok. Complete BS.

I guess you don't know about the Jewish militias in Eastern Europe where most of the killing was taking place.

Usually, if you change a variable in a set of equations describing a dynamic system, the results change. Conjecture about "what if's" in history (or your own life) are useless. If you change the past, you do change the future. However without a compete understanding of how each event and circumstance effects the next event and circumstance, the new course history takes is most uncertain. So, while it is a interesting intellectual diversion, any conclusions would be dubious if best.

Just comfort yourself with the idea of infinite universes, where if some reality can exist, it does exist.

another what if, what if obama finally got the opportunity to swoop in and take all the guns. i bet there are quite a few here that feel comforted by the fact that there are so many freedom fighters, armed, and ready to form militias and fight back against the gun takers in power and sure - there would be a few who would do just that (props to lib for already building a bunker). but the majority of people in this country would do as they are told. they would hand over their guns. they would side with the government in taking down the militias for their own perceived safety. it's why there's flouride in toothpaste.

I am very aware of my history. There really isn't a thing you can tell me about 20th century German history that I don't already know. This particularly dark chapter of German history was and continues to be taught in depth to students in Germany. I've been to the sites where the mass extinction of primarily Jewish people but also homosexuals, communists, and other "undesirables" occurred. Visiting these sites was part of our regular history curriculum. When one considers the might of the Nazi German military, the reach of it's secret service and internal police, one knows that the mass extinction that occurred would not have been stopped had Jewish people had handguns. That's the reality of it. Because a few handguns would never have been able to stop the war machinery that for years rolled with ease over well armed and well trained armies all over Europe.

The other and more relevant reality to this particular discussion is that in today's Germany, Jewish people do not live in fear and have no reason to live in fear. Jewish people migrate from other places in Europe - and as our Jewish poster Oriz confirmed in the other thread - even from Israel to Germany. If it was such a dangerous place to be - even just as a perception - then that would most certainly not happen. And yet it does. So, reality flies in the face of the very argument that you are trying to make here.

And yet, the Jewish population in Germany is continuously growing. It will be larger this year than it was last year. It was larger last year than the year before that. Now, when you look at Eastern Europe - specifically the former Soviet Republics and Putin's Russia as well as Hungary, the picture is quite different. Jewish people can't get away from those places fast enough. And many of them simply head west to the more hospitable parts of Europe.
