I am living in a small town now that does not have a lot of different ethnic cuisines. I moved from the Atlanta area that was home to lots of yummy ethnic restaurants. So since my going out choices here are: fast food, chain restaurants (think Applebee's), Chinese, Italian and some other local places (good food but not ethnic) ..... I want to hear from those lucky enough to have a variety of restaurant options. What are your places where you live?

I miss: sushi, Thai, Indian, Cuban, Vietnamese, Korean, Middle Eastern, Greek, good Mexican from when I lived in California, I could go on and on :) I guess I need to become a better cook!

move to Dallas tx. we have all those kinds of nice places to dine. There is a really good middle eastern resturant here called STRATOS it has belly dancing and the tables are private. there is even a little privacy curtain. the food is to be desired! the presentation is wonderful. the cost is really reasonable. parking is a pain in the azz. the belly dancing is in excellent taste...:) plus they offer airline discounts to employees plus you get a free desert..:)

I halfway live in Seattle, and will move there for good in May.

We live in a very asian part of the city and have a really good Philipino (sp?) restaurant (Kusina Filipina) across the street and a really bad mexican place also :). Within a couple of blocks we have not only Vietnamese, Filipino and Mexican but also Italian, Chinese and a couple of good ol' American sportsbars..

Seattle is great for sushi, our very favorite place (we've tested a lot!) is Azuma Sushi in West Seattle.

There's a Moroccan Restaurant (Marrakesh I think) I like a lot, and also a Lebanese place we like to go for lunch.

My favorite place to shop for groceries or go for lunch is Pike Place Market, you can get the best fresh fish and vegetables there, but also snacks from around the world! That's where I go when I crave something German...

They have little take out places and restaurants with German, Frensh, Polish, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, India, North African, Italian, Mexican, south American... food and snacks. Sooo good. I love food and trying new things!

:)

short history:

2001 - met in Germany

April 2003 - fell in love

Aug 2004 - go to the US for internship

Feb 2005 - both return to Germany

Aug 2006 - getting married

DCF timeline:

09/01/2006 - filed the petition in Frankfurt

09/06/2006 - medical in Frankfurt

09/26/2006 - faxed checklist

10/05/2006 - received interview invite

11/01/2006 - INTERVIEW in Frankfurt - approved!

11/04/2006 - VISA IN HAND!!

12/21/2006 - POE San Francisco and ON TO SEA!

YUM!!! Thanks guys, I now have some lovely places to visit and get good food :) My fiance is from Vancouver. Whenever I visit him, I take advantage of that city and its variety of restaurants. I came back last week and had been really spoiled, eating sushi, Thai, Middle Eastern, Greek during the trip (the rule was, I was not allowed to eat anything that I could get in my town :) I am craving sushi like you wouldn't believe, but if I want it, I have to drive an hour and a half each way :(

I live in San Diego, CA--we have everything here! Within a couple miles of my house one can find, Thai, sushi, Mexican (24hr. drive thru as well as sit-down restaurants), Chinese, Italian, Indian, Greek, and Japanese. To get Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Cuban, Afghan, Cambodian, or Filipino food, I have to travel 5 or 6 miles.

Diversity is one of the best things about living in a large city.

If you would like, autumnchik, I can post some ethnic food pics for ya. Let me know, I have lots.

OOOH yes please!!!! I really do need to live vicariously through others right now. I am heading to the small local grocery store right now (usually I drive a bit to get a better selection, but I am tired and feeling a bit lazy) so my food choices will be: junk food, packaged dinners, canned soups, some meat and veggies (nothing unique). If I want ethnic anything today at the store, I can buy taco kits. Woo hoo! NOT!!!

I do like the small town I am living in and I moved here for a good reason, but dayum I am craving some variety right now!!!!

 At the grocery store here, there's an "ethnic food" aisle where one can buy foreign culinary delights such as taco kits, spaghetti sauce, and rice.

Sushi is actually easy to make. You could take the time to drive to an asian food store and stock up on the basic ingredients (nori, sushi rice vinegar, wasabi paste, pickled ginger, and don't forget the bamboo rolling mat!). You can get rice, seafood/meats and veggies that go inside the sushi roll at your local grocery store. Don't be afraid to use fresh raw fish from your grocery store... just make sure it is fresh (no strong fishy smell!). There are recipes you can find online.

Sushi's actually quite fun to make too!

Here's a mouthwatering pic for ya :P

I live in Queens, which is ethnic food Mecca - forget Manhattan, we have the real deal here  You can get any kind of Chinese in my neighborhood, also Korean, Indian(Punjabi and South Indian), then a short subway ride away you've got Corona and Jackson Heights, full of Latino (mostly Colombian and Mexican)places, then Jackson Heights which has got pretty much everything(I am hoping we can have our wedding party/dinner at a Tibetan/Nepali place there) :) There is actually a hybrid Japanese/Nepali restaurant in Queens if you can believe it... Sunnyside is a heavily Russian, Turkish and Irish area so you've got all of those cuisines, then there's Indian Chinese(one of my favorites), not to mention Thai, Japanese, just about anything you can imagine. About the only thing I think you can't find is Hawaiian food(there is the chain L&L drive in in Manhattan, but no POI there for this Hawaii girl, it's like a Nepali place without dal!!!) :(
