Hello everyone

I finished my biometrics last week

and today i received a yellow letter stating to bring the following

proof of divorce records

arrest records (back in 95 for minor consumption)

valid and expired passports

but this all puzzles me as I clearly understood the requirements of the N-400 application and already sent the divorce records and court deposition - so why advise me in a manner that appears like i sent nothing

also, I have no record of all my old passports - I have my current passport with the IR - immigrant visa stamp from the embassy in Cairo, do they need any passport prior to that? i mean it shows any time or travel that i may have taken since being granted the permanent residency, anything prior to that does not really apply

thanks for reading

1- They sent you the request because you indicated on your application that you were divorced... it's an automated response based on what you marked on your application and in all likelihood, no one has looked at the evidence you attached to your application yet. They will probably have the proof you sent in at your interview, but take an extra copy of everything in case it got lost.

2- They want to see your passports to check on past travel while you were a permanent resident. If you've only had once passport since you got your green card, you'll be fine. Take whatever passports you have with you; they won't expect you to have every passport you've been issued since childhood.

JimmyHou -

thank you for quickly chiming in -

My only concern is that I used to have a green card (former marriage) which i abandoned and went back home. Hence, starting all over again at the US Embassy in Cairo

Does it even weigh here at all? i discussed it with the immigration officer in Cairo and she understood that I had strong reasons (family/financial) to abandon it and go back home

I am just not sure we are going to be digging into such past at the interview (old marriage) - my current passport actually shows the former green card stamp for pending I-751,

They can ask about anything at all and go back as far as they like.

They will be more concerned with how you got your current green card, but they may ask about your first marriage.

The fact that you left after that marriage is probably very helpful because it shows that you didn't marry just so you could stay in the US.

If you don't have your passport from when you abandoned your green card, try to take other proof that you left the country (travel receipts, etc.). Did you formally abandon your green card at the US embassy/consulate or did you just stop flying back to the US? Be ready to explain all this.

I don't think you should worry... your case is odd, so don't be surprised if they take a little time to review it after the interview, but it doesn't sound like there's anything to be concerned about.

Actually my current passport shows that i abandoned the green card as it has my last pending stamp and when i left and was stamped into Cairo

my case is odd - let me tell you, i was put in removal proceedings for abandoning the second green card interview, but my wife flew back to the US and was able to get original documents from the court for termination with no Prejudice

citing that left the states prior to any further notifications from immigration. and of course that came up at the embassy in Cairo, but i had the proof with the court documents

I remember the officer in Egypt telling me that she does not see many abandoned green card cases, and make sure not to do it again :)
