Don't underestimate the power of superstition and the blissful feeling it gives its converts.

'You shall not take advice on how to live your life and view the world based on the rantings of primitives from thousands of years ago.'

IMO, as a Christian, you can not take things literally. Its clear that many passages were written for family security of the times and also the promotion of population growth.

I suspect that homosexuality was stigmatized for those two reasons. Clearly we no longer need population growth and with equal rights among women and men its a non issue today.

That's a very interesting question; one many have asked throughout the ages, and one at the center of the credibility of Christianity: Where's the book of Jesus, the only book that would really matter and that would replace all other books.

All we have is hearsay, 'written' by illiterate men, at the end of their lives, decades after their alleged experience with JC.

You do the math.

A bunch of hearsay about a man that actually existed. Awesome.

And what do you believe in......??

you realize you're debating the bible with people that believe they're a morphed bacteria. don't you?

I know. And don't forget the monkey or gorilla theory that some are still trying to argue.

At the church this weekend, talking with the Church Secretary, who told me, "You know, our church is full of sinners - it's a big prerequisite" ..

I gotta tell ya - that one phrase from her widened my horizons...

It should be a prerequisite. No one is without sin walking this earth. Period.

In that case who do you think made primitive things like,

Don't murder

Don't steal

Don't sleep with your neighbor's wife

Help your neighbor (you might need their help one day)

Discipline your kids (so they can grow up and respect society and rules)

Don't get drunk (alcohol affects your judgment, makes you do stupid things like beat your kids or wife or run someone over)

Aren't these all "primitive" ideas that still exist today? and for a good reason might I add?

Sin is a religious concept. You know, the Adam and Eve deal where they were all about having fun and enjoying life and then that woman. What was her name? Oh yeah: EVE. That chick listened to the snake, also called serpent, who suggested that god told them to enjoy life and do anything they wanted except eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But, what did she do? She listened to that voice, pre-snake, as it wasn't a snake until after the fact and not only did she eat it, but she took it to the only other person on earth and talked him into eating it too. And, he did. He ate the damned thing and that is where the word "damn" originated, and so did the theological concept of sin. Those ten commandments didn't come until Moses, and all those other guys who appeared to have live for hundreds of years and then the "FALL" happened and all hell, as it were broke loose.

Evil? Sin? Bad? Good? Such a concept. Everyone, excluding sociopaths seem to have it written on their hearts, and those who kill in the name of the god of the week, month, year, or millennium.

Fun facts about the case in the OP

1) The church had the video for days and did not object.

2) The church stopped the service 15 minutes in and announced that either they could not play the video or they had to leave

3) the church is now refusing to refund the money.

It should be noted that the common custom with slide shows and videos for funerals is to show them with their friends and loved ones, looking happy and affectionate.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

Soooo out side of religious context, you believe the below rules have no place in our society?

Don't murder

Don't steal

Don't sleep with your neighbor's wife

Help your neighbor (you might need their help one day)

Discipline your kids (so they can grow up and respect society and rules)

Don't get drunk (alcohol affects your judgment, makes you do stupid things like beat your kids or wife or run someone over)

If these are the facts of the case, the church was wrong.

I'm a theologian. So, I don't accept dogshit as being valid without evidence. Especially since I'm a fully recovered christian from seminary. You cannot establish first base without suggesting that others play a guessing game with you.

Okay. So you agree that some of these primitive rules can be applied biblically and non-biblically?

If these are the facts of the case, the church was wrong.

An hour-long viewing of Collier's body had just finished and the memorial service was 15 minutes underway when Chavez stopped it, those in attendance said.

Friends say they gave the church a remembrance video of Collier a week before that contained images of her kissing and embracing her wife. The pastor had every chance to stop the funeral long before it began, they said.

When they picketed for their money back, passersby told friends to go to hell. And they still don’t have their money back.
