Changing name on passport?

Quick question I hope!

I'm a conditional permanent resident, my passport is about to expire and im going to my home country before it does and will renew it there. Do i need to have my renewed passport under my new married name as it shows on my green card, US SS card and US drivers license, or can I keep it under my maiden name?

The proceedures for a name change in Portugal are so extensive and pricey I would love to be able to avoit doing it! So far I have been traveling with my passport under my maiden name since I had it already before I got married, and never had problems with it. I always traveled with my marriage certificate just in case anyone wondered why it was different, but no one ever did. I have never actually legally changed my name in Portugal...Anyways, do I HAVE TO use my married name since this will be basically a NEW passport?

Thanks!

And i hope this is a good place for this post, if not I'm sorry!

You should likely consult the Portuguese Embassy/consulate for a reasonable response to your question: http://www.embassyportugal-us.org/Embassy_of_Portugal/Consulates_in_the_US.html

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Isn't there any chance to cut time process of passport renewal in Portugal? In my home country they finish everything for 2 days in case you are living abroad.

I was traveling with my maiden name and marriage certificate and never had any problems. BUT when I applied for new passport, I had to change my documents and put my married name.
