My wife has the chance to go on a cruise (stops in Bahamas, etc) this May with me. She has been in the US for two years and I am just now filling the AOS. Will do the AP and EAD all at the same time.

I am unsure if she will be able to go. My understanding on cruises is that you need your US passport. Are you able to get a US Passport before AOS is approved? Or would her philippines visa with old K1 visa and AP be enough?

International travel is always done on the passport. She will need the AP/EAD combo card or GC in order to be allowed to re-enter the US. Some places in the Western Hemisphere allow LPR's to use their GC in place of their passports for travel--check on the countries of intended travel. Otherwise she will need a visa for those countries if her home country requries a visa for travel.

She cannot get a US passport until she receives citizenship which is at least 3 years after becoming a LPR and receiving the GC. She would travel on her PI passport and would need to check if she needs a visa to travel if they leave BEFORE her GC arrives. The AP/EAD will allow her to re-enter the US, but until she receives the GC she is not a LPR of the US and will not be able to travel using those rules. So she will have to travel as a citizen of the PI and will need to obtain the necessary visas for all countries the cruise will stop at, otherwise she will not be allowed onto the ship. Once she receives the GC, she can look up the rules for travel as a LPR. I would recommend she take her PI passport and the GC whether she needs the passport or not.

Good luck,

Dave
