Hi Everyone!

Is it just me or am I the only one on VJ who is from/living in New York State? "Is there anyone else out there from/living in/planning to move to New York State?"

If so, I thought it would be fun to start a message thread for all you NYSers (and for anyone else who is interested) to share your thoughts and ideas about this beautiful part of America...

"I (L) NYS!!", do you?

Hi YuAndDan!

Good luck on your immigration journey too! I agree, Western New York is quite pleasant (yes, even though we are experiencing lake effect snow now). Likewise, Western NY is my (and my husband's) home too.

From what I can see on your profile, I'm assuming you are in Rochester,NY? Ahh...Rochester, the home of Channel 10 and The Spot Coffee...

Hi YuAndDan,

Lol....I agree, that ferry was a waste of money! I think they sold that piece of junk to some company in Europe (though I think it's docked in Nova Scotia, Canada now), the last I saw on the news from Channel 10....

The best way to get from Toronto to Rochester: With a car, take the long way: drive across the Peace bridge, the Queenston/Lewiston bridge, (and if you have a lot of patience) the Rainbow Bridge.

Congrats on the 3000th post! Lol..I'm sure VJ will award you with something. Meanwhile, here is a :star: for your posting!

I like the scenery the best. The snow is nice to look at, but driving around in it might be a problem. Haven't tried driving around here yet. I haven't found anything to be really bad around here, so as for the worst, I'll keep you posted, lol.

As for the snow, yes it's awful to drive in. A 20 minute commute easily turns into a 70 minute commute. And the "I don't drive in the snow" excuse is lame, and people will laugh at you. Learn.

Hi Pauline,

I agree, I like the scenery the best too, especially snow out here in the countryside. And yes, my favourite season is winter too. Which reminds me, it snowed about another couple of inches today (and we are expecting more snow) here. Yippee!!!

As for driving in the winter, it is quite the challenging, fun, and crazy! If you ever do drive in the snow, keep in mind the following a)Allow for extra prep (snow shoveling) and driving time b)Drive slowly c)Watch out for deer and other animals d)Follow the tire tracks on country roads e)Use the highbeams in dimly (or no lighting at all) areas. Good luck on your driving endeavours (oh, and remember to get plenty of practice driving before you take your test)! Lol...Did I ever tell you that I passed my driving test in Canada in the middle of a snowy winter day (that's another story).......

Hi Meow (I assume that you like cats?),

Good luck on your immigration journey. (Sends some snow down to meow, as we have too much snow here). Yeah, it must be a hard adjustment to go from snow to no snow (although some say it's harder to go the other way around, which I don't agree). So if you miss the snow, then why did you relocate to Florida, if you don't mind me asking. What did you like best about being born in and being raised in Albany, NY?

Well, the key to driving in snow is to prepare ahead of time. But think about it this way, would you rather be stuck in a snowstorm, than be caught in a traffic jam (which is about the same time-wise)? Personally, I'll rather deal with the snow in the country, than the people in the city (and yes, road rage does kill people!).

I agree, the "I don't drive in snow" excuse is lame. They might as well just give up their license and say "I don't drive at all". For it is not real driving if one has not driven in snow! Perhaps one should offer lessons as to how to drive in snow, for those people that don't know how to?
