Long vs Short Bridesmaids Dresses

She doesn't like her legs (but it's not like I'd have them in miniskirts and coupled with the cowgirl boots, it would really only be their knees showing).

They are paying, however, only if they are very cheap (for example I showed them one that was $89 and they were outraged, so I may have to rethink who is paying... although with eBay it may be possible to fit their budgets. In fairness, they are all also flying from the UK to be there but I have given them 18 months notice).

Still unsure what to do!

Just be careful with the cut rate dress places that probably ship from China or ebay that it will actually come in time and you'll get something decent looking. There was a story on the dailymail today about women getting the most hideous dresses that looked nothing at all like the pictures.

I've seen plenty on reputable sites for good prices though that would probably fit your budget. Although, any less than about 80-90 and you might be in some final sale/clearance territory. Geez, even every day dresses that I buy on Modcloth cost about that.

See, this is what I was thinking. But then I looked at pictures online where the MOH is in a long one and the other (in my case two) girls are in short ones and it just looked a bit odd. I agree that I want them all to be comfortable and feel confident and beautiful, so perhaps the best compromise is to just choose long dresses. I might scrap the cowgirl boots in that case, sigh...

You can wear cowgirl boots with long dresses too, lots of examples on google. A friend of mine had a rustic barn wedding with long gowns, and everyone wore converse. When I was at the bridal salon, a bride was there looking at some cowboy boots for her party, and they were going to wear different lengths.

$89 is pretty darn good for a special gown.

But a question; is your gown going to be long or short with boots (or without)?

You can wear cowgirl boots with long dresses too, lots of examples on google. A friend of mine had a rustic barn wedding with long gowns, and everyone wore converse. When I was at the bridal salon, a bride was there looking at some cowboy boots for her party, and they were going to wear different lengths.

Mine is going to be long, and I'm thinking I'll probably go for boots also

I just figured the cost of boots for them also would be a waste if they are in long dresses. Not sure why I haven't applied the same logic to myself however

Oh well that is nice.

Tell her she'll be wearing almost knee high boots anyway so knee length skirt should more than work because really, only the upper calf will be showing. Also this is your wedding and it would be super awesome if she could just help you out with this as your MOH.

In regards to your dilemma, oh ma gahd I hope I don't have to deal with awkward bridesmaids! I mean, I know we all have our own style, but it is YOUR wedding after all. I agree though, having 1 girl wear long and the rest wear short will look a little odd.

In general though I definitely prefer short bridesmaids dresses. I'm actually going to have my future bridesmaids choose their own black dresses. I'll have a few "rules" like it has to be just above the knee and it has to be all black but that's it! This is the look I want:

The short black dresses with the cowgirl boots look awesome! I would definitely insist on short dresses. It's your wedding! The one day in our lives we can be the boss, put your foot down

Shana.mike, we did that for my sisters wedding. She had 7 bridesmaids ranging from 16 to 40 yrs old and very diverse in shape and style. She ordered material and the only rule was just above the knee length, we had them made and it looked really nice. Everyone was comfortable while still having some type of harmony.

I'll be honest, the only thing I was annoyed about for my (ex) friend's wedding was the cost of the dress and the alterations. The dresses originally came down below the knee and had to be altered to fit above them. I spent MORE on that bridesmaid's dress than I did on my own wedding dress. >_< She didn't even take the time off work to attend my wedding. (Granted she had about 3 months notice vs the year for hers. )
