My wife and I have been married for over 2 years now and we filed her I751 form in June. We just recieved a letter from USCIS asking for more suporting documents.

We already sent copies of emails, YM chats, photos, a copy of our vacation in Niagra Falls, a copy of my health insurance with my wife on it, a copy of our joint bank accounts with both our names on it, a copy of both our married but filing jointly tax returns showing our common address, copy of the house insurance bill showing her name as one of the beneficiaries and numerous other things. The main thing I am realizing now is, even though we are paying all of our utilities and other bills out of our joint checking account, they still wanted to see my wifes name on all the bills for these things.

The main question I had was, how far back do the bills with both our names have to go back? I can do that now, but I don't want it to seem like we are trying to do it to fool anyone.

Also the tax returns. We have filed married filing jointly for the past 2 years just because we get more money back that way. We didn't realize that would matter either. I can file jointly this year, but I wasn't sure if they would still accept such a new return.

We are also planning to include 2 affidavits from third parties that have known us since before Marivic got here.

I know this sounds like we are not that bright, but I didn't realize 2 people in love would be scrutinized so closely after all we went through already to get this far.

Thank you for any guidance on these questions.

Gary and Marivic

When you sent the bank accounts etc. how much did you send? They usually expect to see documentation for a bank account, for example, covering the entire length of the marriage/US residency. If you only send information about these rather than statements for the 2 years, that may be the issue.

1] The main thing I am realizing now is, even though we are paying all of our utilities and other bills out of our joint checking account, they still wanted to see my wifes name on all the bills for these things.

1. yes - evidence at ROC stage is about 90 percent focused on financial co-mingling.

2. 2 years, or to date of marriage, which ever is longer.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Mostly they want to see how much financial commitment has been made: lease/rent, home ownership, banking, loans (car, house); that is besides the taxes. A utility bill is not going to be much of a proof; there is no much financial liability as for example credit cards, loans on a major item (car, house).

How about trips together?

Is more of a round set of docs that shows various aspects with more relevance to finance. Al lin all, fm the time yougot married to now. We recently did the ROC and sent bank statements every 3-4 months, credit card statements every 3-4 months, car loan, house deed, taxes, affidavits, pics, itineraries of all trips, family pics (in other countries, for both of us),. It was a big packet and maybe overkill, but basically I put myself in their shoes and ask myself questions and then follow up questions to cover mutiple ways each aspect.

Let them decide what matters and what not, by sending them everything.

On top, sometimes you get an extra ####### inspector and then you see those requests.

Good luck
