Ok so before my wife left the Philippines she had her medical done and all of her shots except for one because they did have supply at the hospital at the time. Do we really need to go to a civil surgeon at a price of $625 min. just so that she can get the shot that she is missing ? Sounds a little crazy to me. If the answer is yes then it would have been much cheaper to fly back to Manila to get the shot.

If you are missing any of the required shots, then yes, you must get the required vaccination and see a civil surgeon to get the vaccinations transcribed onto an I-693. You will need to call around to find a civil surgeon that won't insist on a new medical or overcharge you too much. There is a thread here on VJ you can try looking through > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/231026-civil-surgeons-who-dont-rip-you-off/page-13

You can get the shot elsewhere, like at a family doctor or the health dept., if it would be cheaper than from the civil surgeon. Just take the DS_3025 and the record from the newest shot with you when you see the civil surgeon.

If that is true then it is a very important fact tha should be discussed on here so that people know. Having to spend $625 for a $10 shot just so that the civil surgeon can sign off on the form. Certainly a big cost hit because the hospital did not have the vaccine at the time of the medical.

In our area there is only one civil surgeon so we are SOL unless we go out of town.

It is discussed on VJ quite often. It is on the USCIS website about the K-1 visa. It is in the instructions for the I-485 and I-693. It is in the USCIS policies website.

The vaccinations are not required for the K-1 visa. They are required for AOS. You must have all the required vaccinations when you apply for AOS. As I said, the vaccination does not have to be given by the civil surgeon. You can get it somewhere else cheaper, but you must see a civil surgeon to get the vaccinations transcribed onto an I-693.

Some people call around and drive a bit further to find a decent civil surgeon. We drove to one 2 hours away when my husband applied for AOS.
