Hello everyone,

I am trying to get a friend from Poland over to the U.S via a tourism visa. My friend kind of gave me a short notice on this because she just got approved for a month off of work in March. She let me know at the beginning of January, and we've been slowly plucking away at trying to get documentation and her getting a passport. It is the 12th of January right now, and I plan on flying over to Poland on March 1st and flying back with her on the 6th of March. I was just wondering, from your personal experience, is it possible to get an approved tourism visa for all of this? I work in the U.S Coast Guard (Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defence), so I'm hoping this might help with the process. Her work and mine gets in the way a lot, so that's why we have been sort of slow with this process.

We have a lot of the documentation that we need, I think she just needs to set up an interview at this point. She currently has a job and is about to sign a contract to go "full time" I think. She is also about to start college again, but did just recently change her degree since she didn't like her previous one. I know this is all stuff that they will consider at the interview.

Thank you for your time!

How would you job have any effect on her getting approved for a Tourist Visa?

Do you work in the embassy in Poland?

Tourist Visa are approved/denied based upon the petitioner alone.

It shows that I have a stable income and job to financially support her while she's here. I'm sure it would also add a layer of comfort for them since I work for the government and am less likely to do anything sketchy in their eyes, hopefully.

After all that I have been through with all the waiting and delaying, I doubt you working for the governement will make any difference. I am a OEF/OIF combat veteran and I work for the Department of Veteran affairs, that has not done anything to speed my petition up any.

it can also backfire, since they might think she is your girlfriend

and in the second place, she needs to prove on her own that she will return, without your support

Why would her being a girlfriend backfire? Im buying all the plane tickets and i'm going to fly with her first to help her, she'll fly back on her own

It kind of already sounds like girlfriend boyfriend relationship and perhaps meeting for the first time in Poland on march 1

Anyway, OP - you keep saying 'we'. This process has nothing to do with you. I applaud you for your occupation however it has no influence in HER case. She must be the focus of the interview, not you and certainly not YOU (plural)

Good luck

She can easily get a B2 visa before March, typical wait time for an interview in Warsaw is couple of days. She needs to into the embassy with the passport in hand, otherwise no point in going in there. Also, you will not be allowed to go in there with her, nor your presence is relevant and will help in any way - as others above said, it can be detrimental as she can be treated as non-immigrant.

Being in a point where she is "about to sign the contract" and "about to start college" will work against her - doesn't look like she has a lot of ties. Not a lot of denials in Poland these days but they do happen on a regular basis (denial rate is ~10% if I remember correctly).

What's the documentation that you have that you think she needs ? It actually looks like the opposite with all the "about to"...

Not trying to rain on your parade, but be aware denial is a real possibility.

She applies on her own merits only.

"That they have funds to cover expenses in the United States" - is one of requirements for most Tourist Visas.

Google -"Poland Tourist Visa US embassy" and read the requirements

Not to be rude but you posting about getting a visa and that your job sure help because you work in coast guard and homeland security is probably going to upset a lot of people that are on here trying to get diffrent type of visas it sounds like you think a visa should be granted because of your job your job does not matter she will have to apply for that type of visa on her own

Fippil....Don't read these posts from an emotional standpoint. Read them from a non-emotional standpoint. Take away from these posts the information you need to make a logical decision.

1. Your friend, has to prove on her own merits that she HAS TO/WILL return to Poland on her own...that the ties she has to her country will make it necessary for her to return

2. The ties she has include, but are not limited to: bank account, job, apartment/house in her name, family - children, etc.

3. DO NOT PURCHASE a ticket for yourself until you know the result of the interview

4. DO NOT PURCHASE a ticket for her until you know the result of the interview

5. She will need an international passport when she has her interview

6. My advice: She is coming to visit you, but this might be TMI. Silence is golden. Some people may be against this advice, but I have been through this and have seen way to many denials because a woman wants to visit a man.

7. You job and and your service, which I thank you for(I am a former Marine), have no bearing on this as far as support, or honesty.

I hope/wish you and your friend will be able to visit each other here. However, be very prudent in your decision making until you know all the facts.
