Hi,

My fiancee and I are looking for the best deals for buying a ticket. I read somewhere that if my fiancee will buy a ticket for me from the US will cause problems due to taxes etc.

Any work around?

There are no problems whither you buy in PI or USA. Just be sure that the name on the ticket matches perfectly the name on the passport.

Don't buy your ticket until your visa is in your hands!!!!

Second that. A friend of mine just spent a solo vacation because he bought tickets MONTHS in advance of when he thought the visa was supposed to be issued...

Don't worry. Will definitely not buy a ticket until I get my VISA. The CFO should be a breeze since I'm the male and we met in the Philippines as classmates in college.

The rumors that you must buy her ticket in the Philippines with pesos is just that, a rumor. I bought my wife's ticket from New York on Expedia with my credit card with no problems.

Just be prepared for the taxes she pays when she checks in. If she buys in Phil with pesoes, the taxes get built into the ticket. A US bought ticket will not have the taxes prepaid so she must pay them at the airport in pesoes. I solved that by sending my wife $300 in cash by WU in advance. (The total taxes are only about $40, but I wanted her to be able to buy food and other things she needed while in transit.)

Travel Fees:

Travel Tax/Exit Fee for all those immigrating: 1,620 Php (currently) Can be paid at the airport if its not included with the purchase of your airline ticket. Counter is staffed 24/7 at NAIA for all terminals.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The airlines are making their best profit in 20 years. Fleets are old so new equipment is on order and employees have not had much of a bump in salary. Airlines are finally making money based not on the airfare but on the other fees i.e. baggage and seat selection.

American Airlines: “For our flight attendants, this means the contract ratified just last week will now be improved (subject to APFA approval) by another 4 percentage points in pay, bringing hourly rates 7% higher than the flight attendant pay rates at the other large network airlines (Delta or United),” Lastly, for their non-contract team members below manager level (L4 and below), this increase is in addition to a previously announced 6% increase, bringing their total increase to 10%.

Now you will see "inflation" in this country as other companies are doing the same as it has been warranted for some time now. (Just my opinion)
