We're awaiting our interview in the Dominican Republic at the moment. When my fiancee arrives in the states, we plan to marry for the courthouse immediately to start the paperwork, then have a bigger wedding ceremony later on.

We'd like to fly back to the DR to have the ceremony with his family. I see two legal options: Applying for advanced parole or waiting for the green card.

Which one is faster? I am seeing 60 days for the green card and 90 for advanced parole in other posts, but there is conflicting information, and it doesn't seem right. Does anyone have some information or experience on the fastest way to return to the DR (and be able to get back into the states?)

Thanks!

Your marriage plan is similar to what many folks do, including ourselves. We got married four days after her POE arrival. We submitted our AOS/EAD/AP application packets approximately two weeks after that. Our EAD/AP applications were approved in 69 days. We were fortunate, it took us 105 days to get our AOS approval.

File your AOS/EAD/AP applications as soon as possible after your marriage. There are no additional fees for EAD/AP if filed concurrently with your AOS. EAD/AP applications are being processed in 60-90 days. The notion of AOS processing in 60 days is an anomaly. and certainly not representative of the usual AOS processing time. You should check in the Fam.-based AOS Progress Forum on the reality of several months of waiting (often more) for an AOS interview, or even longer of a wait if you get an AOS interview waiver. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/131-adjustment-of-status-case-filing-and-progress-reports/

It is a general forum recommendation to concurrently file for the EAD/AP with your AOS. There are so many reasons that it just makes sense.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Ditto what A & B said. apply for ap when you adjust status. If you end up as an interview waiver case it could take up to a year to get the green card. There is no way to know in advance if you will have an interview or not.

60 days for a green card? where? No way Maybe a EAD or Advance Parole. Right now Green Cards in Adjustment of Status is taking 8 to 12 months (don't know what the long jam is). So be sure to file those AOS forms soon as you get that marriage certificate.
