(Reuters) - Four men were shot dead in a car in a trendy neighborhood in San Francisco, California late on Friday evening, local media reported.

Gunfire erupted at about 10 p.m. local time in the Hayes Valley neighborhood, said the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, citing police. It said no arrests had been made so far.

"We've got four victims in a car here," the newspaper quoted a police officer at the scene as saying over police radio. "We've got multiple gunshot wounds here," another said.

Residents reported hearing more than a dozen gunshots.

Police alerted the California Highway Patrol of a vehicle possibly connected to the killings that could be headed toward Highway 101, the newspaper said.

Cited article said it was a "trendy area". NBCBAYAREA.com said it was known to have a history of gang violence. Seems a little disparate in my opinion and experience. The four victims were found inside a stolen car.

Tragic as it seems, this stuff happens all over.

All I know is that it sounds like one…if not all four…were thief's and they were shot. Not enough info to know what the real story is. Unless there is another side of the story……..Just four less car thief's to worry about. Maybe the car owner shot them?

i've driven through there alot. its former gang territory but on the up for the last decade. Example - rent is about 3000 for a 1bed room.

Stolen car and 4 dead, smells like gang activity to me. Either Drug related from Mexico or neighborhood.

They used to call this stuff "gangland violence," but perhaps if they appeal to Eric Holder, then gangland killers will be considered victims of white oppression.
