My friend's fiancee was just approved. However he is planning on going to Colombia for 2 months starting in May. I told him I think she has to enter the USA within three months of approval. He was planning on going down and basically spending the summer with her and then bringing her back with him and then getting married after they come back. I don't think it will work as it would then be about 5 months from now until she enters the USA. I can't remember as it was a year ago for me but I thought the K1 was only good for 3 months of issuance to enter USA. Am I wrong?

3/19/2005 sent 129 to VSC

3/21/2005 recieved at VSC

3/23/2005 NOA1 via email

3/30/2005 touched

4/1/2005 NOA2 via email

4/6/2005 called NVC they received petition today

4/11/2005 called NVC case being forwarded today to embassy

4/14/2005 snail mail on case being forwarded to embassy

4/18/2005 faxed packet 3 back(we have not recieved yet and used somebody else's forms with our case number and info)

4/26/2005-Embassy says they never recieved fax.

4/27/2005 receive actual packet 3 refax to embassy and courier to embassy

4/28/2005-another email from embassy stating did not get fax. They do get back to you with the emails but just forget about ever calling them.

-email them back stating that it was faxed and we have confirmation along with courier. Keep my fingers crossed that by staying on top of them they still give us a May interview date.

5/3/2005-Embassy emailed back with interview date of June 1. Wish us luck!!

5/13/2005-Received Packet 4 from embassy.

you have 6 months from date of issue in which to use the K1 visa and enter the US. it is a one-time visa.

gimygirl,

Point of clarification - one has 6 months from the date of issue in which to embark on uninterupted travel to the USA. If that condition is met, one can arrive at the POE and still be granted entry after the visa has expired.

After the petition is approved by the service center is is forwarded to the NVC and then on to the embassy. The embassy will make sure the process is completed unless they determine the petition has been abandoned. The K-1 visa is good for six months of issuance but I have heard that if the beneficiary can not execute it within that six month period many embassies will issue a new one. Once the beneficiary arrives in the U.S. they have 90 days to marry and start AOS or return to their country of origion. Good luck
