I swear.....

I REALLY think something needs to be done about new members. I don't know how it needs to be done, but honestly, I just spent 10 minutes in K1 and the amount of 'duh' questions and sweeping bad advice is SCARY!!!

If you go to NADA.com to get a car valuation you can only get 3 a day. Can something like this be done for like say - two weeks or something. With a big message that says -

"You have exceeded your post count for today. Please visit our FAQ and Guides section to continue your visit with us. You are also welcome to continue reading our Forums until tomorrow. You may find the answer to your question as you read."

I've mentioned this one before but no one has ever commented back on viability in this particular medium (I don't know if the software system will work with this).

I belong (well, belonged, no time to go there anymore!), to a community where your posting privileges are based on your time since registering. For example, a new person can post 2 new topics and 50 posts in a 48 hour period. When I'd been there 6 months, it became 3 new topics and 75 posts in a 48 hour period. I never felt restricted, could always comment where I wanted, and felt like if I needed to start a new post I could.

That board was also moderated by forum. There were about 16 forums. It seemed to work.

I think it is in reference to " WEAR YOUR LOVE LIKE HEAVEN " . Donovan Leech ?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I don't understand your reference to Donovan. Can you please explain?

"Wear your love like heaven", under your avatar, it's from a Donovan Leitch song, circa 1960s. He was hot then, and I was a huge Donovan fan.

Lord kiss me once more

Fill me with song

Allah kiss me once more

That I may, that I may

Wear my love like heaven (Wear my love like heaven)

Wear my love like heaven (Wear my love like heaven)

Color sky havana lake

Color sky rose carmethene

Alizarian crimson

Ah! Okay. Wasn't sure if it was my id "ceriserose".

As for the song, yes, it's that song, but I've only heard Sarah McLachlan's cover of it. I knew it was a cover, just didn't know whose... Thanks!!!

How about creating a forum for newbies which is the ONLY place they can post for 'x' period of time? We could pin links to all of the places one would normally refer a newbie to and that forum could be more highly moderated than the others....

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Thanks for letting me know that Sarah's got a cover of it. I'll have to check it out!

If it's bothering you that much, let someone else answer the stupid questions and limit yourself to answering only ones on topics that interest you. Part of the problem with being new is not knowing where to start looking, and part of the problem with searching is that the search engine on the site is pretty well useless unless you already know the lingo (in which case, you probably don't have dumb questions.)

Just for clarification (before this gets out of hand) I personally did not use the word 'dumb'. I said 'duh' questions.

It is harder to wander through this community (when new) than when I first joined. What bothers me more than 'duh' questions is 'duh' answers. Those I consider harmful and IMO that is the purpose posting limits would serve.

I don't understand all these ideas about making newbies have to do certain things or only let them post x number of times a day or in one certain forum. Just ignore the "dumb" questions.

A lot of these rules wouldn't make sense for people who join after finishing/filing their initial paperwork (as was my situation) or even people who join when they are at the consulate stage/finishing AOS/etc.

The better idea is to separate VJ between men and women.Let us try it for some time.We will have a tool to detect people who claim to be of the opposite sex to ensure there is no infiltration across genders.

If one tries to go to the board side of the opposite gender a message will pop up saying "sorry you do not belong to this gender; a sex change will be needed if you want to visit this part of the board. Please visit the Phillipines section of the site to get a quote for this surgical procedure".

In all seriousness, this site (esp. the O/T forum) needs more active moderation, not only to cool off some of the flaming but to do the day to day stuff of merging similar threads, deleting duplicate postings/threads etc.

Not a bad idea. Even without a posting restriction (might be too much for Ewok to code, and Alex's point is good, too), having a forum that says 'New to VisaJourney? Here's where to start' might help, especially for people who aren't sure what they should do, since all they know is that they're engaged to a foreigner and there's a movie called Green Card.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to stop people from posting bad answers, but it would be good if it were stressed somewhere that pretty much everyone is talking out of their personal experiences and while there are some who are more knowledgeable than others, making a decision on the basis of one or two answers is *not* the purpose of the forum. A newbie forum would allow people to get a sense of what sorts of questions people can answer.
