I'd love the ability to kill pics in sigs. I use and post from slower systems and all the pics really make for a slow experience.

Can't you already do that by choosing not to view signatures? That's what I do and I don't have to see any of the extra #######.

If you choose that, you lose information that might be valuable. I agree with the extra #######, but there are some that don't link that info in their timeline so how's anyone supposed to know. And asking them to fill in their timeline is a joke. Hmm...maybe that should be a change...making the timeline a requirement? Or is that infringing on people's rights?

No, it doesn't. Especially since there's no guarantee that someone posting here since 2004 will know more than someone posting 2006 (to take one: anyone adjusting in 2004 have to deal with IMBRA?), and the point of such a site as this is to encourage self-reliance, not waiting for Mommy and Daddy Moderator to give an answer.

apparently my experience and research over time is no longer of use. I shall take my leave then.

IMHO, the beauty of the long term members is that many, having gone through the experience already, can see the forest for the trees and help calm down those in the thick of it.

Anyways, this isn't really what Ewok was asking for originally, so I stick with my original pet peeve -- if we must have pic's in our sig's, please regulate the size when they appear. thanks :)

Thats true not everyone will know everything, but within that group of OLDEST MEMBERS hopefully most of the high points can be covered. This would just show the newest who they can first turn to then others will reply im sure, then taking all information, and doing as they see fit for themselves. Not an assigned board just a notation.

Good point. I am an example. I've been asked questions on PM and when I research them, I realize how quickly things have changed. I'm no longer "up to date" on things. And I've been around since 2004 (on this and my two dozen other IDs).

... the point of such a site as this is to encourage self-reliance, not waiting for Mommy and Daddy Moderator to give an answer.

Another excellent point

Gupt you or whoever out of the oldest will never know everything there is im sure and you cant be expected to answer everyones questions. But out of this group like i say someone will most likely get the most experienced answer as to your opinon, another might give a different opinion. With this information the person asking will take what they have found (hopefully for themselves) and consider what else is given to make the final choice. You do have to do some of this learning on your own  but its always good to ask backup sometimes.

Yes, backup is nice. One of the 'problems' of this site (IMHO) is that people use it for more than just backup. Many users essentially ignore or pay little attention to the primary sources of immigration info (USCIS.GOV, State Dept website, consular post websites) and go straight to VJ. VJ should never be a primary source of info for anyone but sadly it is.

Remove the pictures up on top or at least do a rotation every so often to give other members a chance to add there pictures on top too. Make the number of post less so it would be more easy to move up to the next rank or get another heart.

Blah blah blah, it doesn't need a council of elders

I agree with:

- limiting the size of pics in the siggy

- not getting post count for OT - Lord knows I've accrued too much and would love not having each post counted

- making the guides a req to read before posting

I disagree with moderation and 'lots of it'....I think many members here already moderate this place God forbid you say summat that's not hearts & flowery.

oh and testing one two...I'd like it if a backup post was added to the last one...that was cool when it was like that before

edit: hey it worked...the other day it didn't :/

I disagree with that. VJ shouldn't even have guides. They detract from people reading the primary sources (USCIS, state.gov, consular post sites). People need to get in the habit of reading difficult-to-read content on government websites if they are going to get through this process without a lawyer and with a smattering of bad fortune. To imply otherwise does people a disservice.

In a perfect world, if ppl completely understood it, there'd be no call for VJ.

Again, I disagree. I didn't use the Guides. I understood the content and still needed VJ. VJ came in handy when interpreting language on USCIS.GOV. For example, remember the statement of intent? Well what did yours say? How about yours? Oh, I see! VJ gave me ideas. How about evidence of relationship? Ok, I get the phone bills, the photos. I don't need VJ. But wait, Yahoo chat logs? Are you serious? You did that? But I can't print it out! Oh you used SnagIt, nice! Did your consular officer care? Some said yes, some said no. How about the COs at Mumbai? There is a ton of useful information you can get from talking to other people who are particpating in the same process. But to use VJ to actaully understand the process is a poor use of this site, IMO. Primary sources do a much better job of that.

How about a Paypal donate button?

I believe there are legal issues with that. One of the posters who've been around since the MU/UPL days may be able to elaborate on that.

oh. I wondered why.
