Hi guys!

I have my interview coming up next month and have been thinking about how I am going to get all my stuff over to the States. And when I say STUFF I mean big things that wouldn't fit in my case such as jewellery boxes (huge and glass), DVDs, old toys of mine etc.

I know the easy option would be just mail it from the local post office but does anybody know of any shipping companies or any way easier?

Thanks in advance! :)

Agreed... it is very EXPENSIVE to ship big items. It is just better to buy new items when you get here

unless the items are heirlooms or are worth more than the cost of shipping it makes more sense to sell your items or donate them.

I say bring your stuff. It's not easy to move to another culture, so surrounding yourself with your familiar things will be a comfort. Electric items can be replaced easier than made to work, but your treasured things have a variety of shipping options. This is an old UK thread, but you can see some of the methods used and experiences if you read through it. Maybe it will give you some information as you look at options. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/128548-yes-its-another-shipping-thread/

You may be a bit more practical than I am, but I am doing the opposite. I'm taking my photos and personal items, which have sentimental value and my clothes - whatever I can fit into two suitcases. The albums will have to be shipped at some point, and probably after I have moved, which is fine. As others have noted, it is not cheap to ship things over.

My heart is in Florida with my fiance and my mind has already moved there too, from the month we got engaged. I feel like I'm existing in limbo waiting for the next steps so that I can move home. I think everyone's miles will vary on this and for some, it may be a valuable source of comfort to have familiar items around them. For me, it's just stuff.

I used Pickfords http://www.pickfords.co.uk/moving-overseas#.VLctHGMh7l4

I had to fill in forms saying what I wanted to ship, rough value and they came and packed everything from home. I had things from university that I want with me, some soft furnishings that I had been given etc. With the insurance it cost a fair amount but I knew I would be happier with a few of my personal belongings.

If you will be living on the west coast there are problems at the ports, such as LA, something to do with the longshoreman so everything is delayed massively! My shipment has passed customs (all dealth with by the removal company) but they aren't currently allowed on to pick up the shipment (not enough staff in the port). Something to bear in mind :-)

Do someone know how it is with firearms? I can find how to do it for non imigrants or for residents who buy a weapon aboard. But i can not find amything about how to bring my firearm as moving good from Switzerland to the US (under a CR-1 Visa).

I know that in TN a licens is not required as long i am not carring it and also how it works with the airlines. But i guess i need to declare it at the CBP. Do i need to fill out a form?

Thank you
