Hello

Im currently at the NVC stage for CR1 application. Iv read a lot of infor on the main Ir1/cr1 forum and have observed that there is no exact science to checklists some ppl get checklist for missing AOS info others get case complete while missing that same info but are told yontake it to the interview.

I was wondering maybe it is based on what the country consulate is willing to handle.

So long story short can anyone that has had a checklist or currently working through checklists in anyway, either at NVC or following up at their interview post here please.

I'd really appreciate it for purpose of information sharing and starting to get some idea of how the NVC and Aussie consulate works ?

Cheers in advance for contributing!

Dear Oyehope,

Sydney is a fairly easy Consulate. Australia is a very low visa fraud country. In fact, Australia is a pretty nice country - and it seems there are not THAT many Aussies that want to immigrate to the US unless they're on gap year, or they are in love!

Checklists appear in two major areas: documentation of major events (birth, marriage, divorce) and on the AOS (incorrect information, or missing info).

If you and your spouse have never been married before now, and you don't have kids included, and you've always lived in one Australian state, and you haven't moved around a lot, so you can get good copies of your documents at your Births, Deaths, and Marriages office, you are ahead of the game.

The #1 checklist for the AOS comes with the info from the US citizen's tax returns. You must know what TYPE of form was used to submit your partner's taxes - the 1040 form or the 1040EZ form. The number you place on the I-864 MUST match the TYPE of form that was used. I've been active on Visa Journey now for about 2 years and I've seen this happen over and over and over again.

The other consideration is the timing of the US citizen's tax returns vis a vis your I-864 submission. If you submit your I-864 prior to April 15th of this year (2015), the last three years of taxes are 2013, 2012, and 2011. If you submit your I-864 AFTER April 15, 2015, the three tax years are 2014, 2013, and 2012. IF your partner has filed an extension for 2014, the assumption is that he or she will need to submit the 2014 tax return prior to your interview. You can still be approved with an extension, but you will be asked to proof of the extension or a copy of the returns to your interview.

In woodworking, the saying is "Measure twice, cut once". With NVC, it's, "Read the instructions 5 times, and double-check 10 times!"

Good luck!

Thank you Sukie for the very detailed information. I really appreciate it. I'm praying we don't get any checklists. :)

As Sukie said, the AoS and tax return info can cause a checklist. I thought my taxable income was 0 as it's all from Australia, however line 22 of tax return says 2,754 or something. We got a checklist at the end of December.

We are also now arranging a joint sponsor sponsor anyhow, so will send it all in within the next 3 weeks anyhow.

Good luck!
