How far do you drive for Biometrics?

I was wondering, since our nearest Application Support Center is 6+ hours drive away, is it possible to have Biometrics closer to home? Do employers normally give time off so a person can go get their Biometrics? Any input is appreciated.

mine only 45min away, if you schedule a day or 2 off from work place in advance like 2 weeks notice I dont think there is a problem

I drive 4 hours to my nearest USCIS office but the Biometrics is done in a city only 2 hours away, so they usually seem to schedule the place closest to your home. Most reasonable employers would allow time off work, especially if you show them the actually Bio letter.

You can try walk-ins at a closer location (there's a thread on this), but there's no guarantee that the guard will let you in, even if you present the letter and explain your situation.

We were extremely fortunate that the biometrics place was just 6 or 7 miles from our house. We still routinely pass by when we're running errands in that direction.

Thanks all for the info. I think showing the employer the letter will be the only way. We are 20 miles from the Oregon border and our nearest office is Sacramento.

I live only about an hour away from local biometrics office but I know some people have to drive few hours like you. As far as I remember from posts of other people there is not much you can do about it. There is not very many USCIS offices, so some offices cover few hundreds of miles around, especially in less populated areas. If you have another office closer to you than assigned one you might try it, but lkike was mentioned before it's no guarantee they would help. With employer it shouldn't be a problem, biometrics appointment is an official requirement from USCIS for applicant, so if you show them official letter you've got in the mail any reasonable employer should give you a day off for such thing.

I'm also fortunate to have one pretty close to me. I have about a half hour drive to get to mine. I can't imagine an employer giving someone a hard time about the time needed off work. Especially when this allows them to continue being able to work! Having the notice ahead of time should help because they can at least show their employer well in advance that they need some time off.
