NVC to interview in Dominican Republic (split topic)

All theses changes....geesh

Guys/Gals I'm currently in NVC. Just paid my AOS fee 2 weeks ago and was waiting for my IV invoice to pay the fee and send the AOS and IV package together as new steps instructed.

With this new site should i open an account now and try to submit the visa form, or should i continue wait for IV invoice, pay the fee then jump to the site for the visa form and setup an appointment for VAC?

Seems like I got caught in the limbo here. I'm so confuse, can anyone help?

I'm super stressed out about this new process in Santo Domingo as well. The Embassy website says:

"For visa interviews after January 1, 2015, nearly all visa applicants will need to make appointments at both the Visa Application Center (VAC) and the U.S. Embassy. Applicants should visit our online visa appointment system at www.ustraveldocs.com/do well in advance of their desired travel date. At the VAC, visa applicants will submit their application, take a photo, and provide fingerprints. Applicants will later visit the U.S. Embassy for an interview with the consular officer."

This apparently applies to all the interviews after January 1. I emailed the support department at ultradocs and they sent me an automated response with a username and password to log on to the ultradocs scheduler. I aatempted that, however I am stuck with the creation of the online profile. This thing seems to be geared to either K-1 filers (and other non immigrant visas) or for new CR-1/IR-1 filers. It seems to assume that you need to still pay your fees and file your 260 and you need a payment receipt from the bank before continuing to schedule anything.

The site is also completely mute as to what to bring for a CR-1/IR-1 interview when everything has already been sent to the NVC. I'm going to assume she needs everything for this new VAC that is needed at the interview. Who knows. Unfortunately I have some of the relationship evidence with me (photos and finance records) that I was bringing to the interview. I'm really stressed out after waiting 14 months to have this dropped on us after we have our interview set and everything prepared for. I have more calls to make to the Embassy and ultradocs support tomorrow. No one seemed to know anything about the situation last week when I called after we received the email blast from ultradocs. They knew about other types of non-immigrant visas, but they didn't know about any changes to K-1 or immigrant visa processing. This is all very confusing.

Maybe we should have a thread dedicated to all the new changes in Santo Domingo now that the new process appears totally implemented (although poorly explained to CR-1 cases with interviews already scheduled.

I would call the NVC. The ball is still in their court and they may know. My best *guess* is that you will pay your fees at the NVC as normal and when your case is completed and your interview is scheduled by the NVC you will make your VAC appointment only. I think the group that makes both their VAC and Counselor appointments are the K-1 folks and other non-immigrant visas that usually paid their fee at the embassy. What I *think* is happening is that Immigrant visa interviewees will only give their finger prints and charge the pass port delivery fee. Be warned, this is just a guess. But it makes some sense. The opening comment on the ultradocs webite (the profile and scheduler site for the VAC) when you choose Immigrant Visa says:

"If you are immigrating to the United States, you need to have a petition approved by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). See the Immigrant Visa Information page for additional information. This process is handled separately by the Embassy." This indicates that you still file with the USCIS either with the Counselor Direct or the USCIS in the States.

So it appears the ultradocs website for immigrant visas seems to perhaps be set up for direct counselor filings.

Be warned, everything above is my best guess. I will post back when I know more.

Thanks you guys for the reply. I also agree with your guess mdzcpa. After you paid the AOS fee how long until you got the chance to pay the IV?

The new steps says you dont need to send anything in after the AOS fee but until both fees are paid and then you sent everything together.

We had an attorney and paid both fees and send both packages together.

Where did you see it said do not send in anything after the AOS fee under the new process?

Boy this sure is confusing.

edit: tomorrow is Three Kings Day so I'm not sure embassy or VAC is open :(

I think the fees will be paid to the NVC because that process of sending the originals documents an affidavit of support is completed here before it's send to the embassy, and they also let you know when you can pay it by either sending you an email or over the phone when you contact them. as far as the VAC appointment goes i guess you schedule an appointment with them after you already have an interview schedule (the appointment is only to drop off documents and get your fingerprints taken) at the US embassy in the DR which is set up by the NVC ( I don't think that process has changed, interviews are still schedule by the NVC and then send to the DR). That is my understanding according to what I have read in the Embassy website.
