Hello. My wife is a recent US citizen and wants to bring her father here to visit. He doesn't have intentions on staying here permanently. I was thinking about filing for the B-2 visa (non-immigrant tourist visa) but wasn't sure if that's the easiest and fastest way possible. I guess the other option is to petition for an immigrant visa but again, at his age, he has no interest in staying here permanently.

What is the best visa to apply for? What is the timeline like? 6mo.-1yr? What is the most economical and quickest route either immigrant or non-immigrant? If non-immigrant route, can we do all the applications for him, even though it's a visitor/tourist visa?

I've always heard that a US citizen can bring their parents here easily, I just never found out how or with what visa they come with. I think I heard it is usually 3 months a year?

My father in law is retired and has no property, source of income, pension...etc. He lives with his daughters (rents) and babysits the kids. Which is why we want to submit and petition for him to come visit us for a couple months.

Any insight or direction is appreciated.

Thanks

If he wants to visit he applies for a visitor visa.

If he wants to immigrate then an immigrant visa.

A visitor visa is much quicker and cheaper but less certain.

ditto

the B2 visa is the only tourist visa for visiting, you wife as stated, doesn't do anything, he applies on his own merits and has to prove strong ties to his country, he has to convince the IO that he will return.
