happy new year everyone!

I need some information about dual citizenship..( US-PH ): I am waiting for my naturalization test as of now and I am very confident I will pass the test so I am trying to gather some information about getting a dual citizenship (gaining Philippine citizenship back) I have two minor child also (ph citizen) and I know for sure when I get my US citizenship they automatically get theirs but have to file the N600 to get the naturalization certificate.I am planning to apply the dual citizenship as soon as im done with my oath my first question is: do the kids gain their philippine citizenship automatically too when i apply? 2nd question: Do i have to file N600 right away for my kids to get the US passport and get the dual citizenship or it can be wait before they get to the age 18? If i dont file the N600 can I get US passport for them without their naturalization certificate and just show mine as they are minors? Please share your information about this matter, thanks

Dual citizenship is fairly simple, you need to take an oath either at the Philippine consulate or during an outreach event. I don't know how that works with your children.

I don't have any quick answers regarding your children for the N-600 and U.S. passport either. Hopefully someone who has done this process with children will read your post.

They will have automatic US Citizenship, as you said. You personally will receive a "Certificate of Naturalization", but you will need to apply for a "Certificate of Citizenship" for your children. I'm not sure what the current process is, but when my parents became Naturalized US Citizens, in the early 90s, I was 14yo. They applied for a Certificate of Citizenship for me, and only then was I able to get a US Passport.

Check the US State Dept Website about passport applications, if this info I'm giving you from personal experience is still valid, or if you can apply for a passport for your children without their personal Certificate of Citizenship.

As for Dual Citizenship, I suggest checking the website of the PHL Consulate that covers your area in the US, or the PHL Embassy in DC, or calling them if the info isn't readily available.

@ sweetbabe

Hi! I also have the same inquiry. Another member was kind enough to explain the process here on my thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/529644-derivative-citizenship-for-children-below-18-years-old/#entry7411038
