Questions I thought up while filling out my I-129F

For benefit of anyone who just downloaded I-129F.

Issues/Grey areas.

Some of these I had to research for myself, some of these I imagined might cause confusion.

I've seen I am not the only one who had little confusions about the form, maybe something like this post should be pinned up.

It is not really a complicated form to complete, but we all want to avoid an RFE, no matter how small the delay is to correct it, so we may think too hard and make things more difficult than they have to be. I'm sure I did, no shame in it.

The sample form does not answer all these questions.

If someone could add anything about Part B #12, to make this list more complete.

Part A

1-8a, 11: self explanatory

8b: an A# is an alien number, you would probably have one if you live in a country you were not born in.

9: Date on official document, not the date it ended for you.

10: If you check US citizen you do not have to fill in the blank below, that is for someone who checks Naturalization.

Part B

3b, 5-11, 13-15: self explanatory

1: If 'alien fiance/e doesn't have a middle name....there was a thread that suggested several options, from others' experience, which seems safe.... -None- -NONE- N/A NMN (for No Middle Name), the riskiest sounding suggestion was - leave it blank (but if there is no middle name on the G-325A, and the person reviewing the form is not retentive it might not be a problem).

3a, 4: ask fiance/e if the info you have is correct, sometimes what is on the birth certificate may be different from what they normally think, or you might be assuming that the SO was born where he grew up, but maybe the certificate says something different

12: This didn't apply to us so I cannot say anything about it.

16: For some this may be obvious whether it is necessary to answer or not. I can only speak for Morocco based on the answers people here gave me - yes the native language is Arabic, write it in Arabic even if the administrative language is French (and yes, French is written in romanized script regardless off the marks around the letters - so this question would not apply).

19: check the forum for IMBRA if you have confusion

20: Sometimes there is a US embassy and a US consulate, and one of them might not accept visa applications, research it.

Part C

1: If not, you can write 'Not in Military Service'

2: self explanatory

3: follow up to question 2, self explanatory

Part D

Fill it out.

Part E

If a friend or relative helped you, don't worry about this.

If a lawyer or some other official filled out the form, they need to complete this section. If you cannot use you hands and someone filled it out, I cannot say for sure if you ignore this or not.

Double triple check for spelling, and that you didn't leave out a number or reverse some numbers.

And always make sure the price didn't change before you send the package with your check.

If I cause offense it is not on purpose, think about that before you take offense. If you feel offended, consider that maybe I'm not talking about you and maybe I accidentally stumbled onto a sore area and do not know. Thank you.

 I reply to myself that this is may already have been done on the RFE master list ignore the comment about pinning this somewhere. I didn't immediately make the connection between basic issues like the ones I outline, and reading about RFEs in order to prevent them.

Of course I cannot actually edit the original post because now the 'edit' button for the that post seems to have disappeared.

No, I think this project is quite different from the RFE master list because it is about how to fill out the form. RFEs can be for just about anything, not just what you answered on the I-129F form. So I think a list like this is useful-- and I have a few minor things to add.

Question A2- Despite popular belief, this question is not always self explanatory, because there is the possibility for a petitioner to live outside of the USA at the time of filing. For example, I maintain a permenant address in the USA but am a student in Canada and reside at a different location. Since they do not specify, it might be confusing to know which address they want. Let me state for the record that it seems they want a USA mailing address and will not (to my knowledge) send correspondence to a foreign country. However, I would also personally make an attachment with my address of residence as well.

Question B14- Also not self explanatory unless you have a permanent residence in the US. If you don't, and plan to rent shortly beforeyou and your finace come to the USA, then I'm not sure what you should answer here. "None"? "Not yet"? List a parent's or friend house?

Question B15- I have seen the question arise on whether one should romanize their Fiance(e)'s address or write it in the official language of their country. Again, I'm not sure what the consensus is.
