Hi everyone!

I am from Switzerland and my fiancé and I have filed a petition for a K-1 visa. We just found out today that the NVC has received our case and given it a case number. Apparently the next steps are that they are going to send it to the Embassy in my home country (Switzlerland), which will send me a package (n.3) with some steps to take and once I send that package back they will send me another one with my interview date.

My questions are the following:

- How long does this whole process usually take?

- Can I make an appointment with the doctor (approved by the embassy) before I get the first package from the embassy or do I have to wait for that? And what about the police certificate?

- Is there anything else I can do in the meantime?

Thank you so much for you answers!

Best,

Valentine

HI Valentine,

I keep saying the same to most people but each embassy handles the process differently. For instance in Poalnd we don't have to send anything back to embassy and we pick our interview dates individually online. Once you have your case number from NVC you can book your medical appointment and start gathering all your papers http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/types/family/fiance-k-1.html#6

Cheers!!!!

Hi, Valentine,

To get valuable information about the process in Switzerland, check out this link.

According to the website, there are medical instructions in the Packet 3, so I would recommend you wait for that before scheduling your medical.

Good luck!

Thank you for your answer!

I was wondering one more thing: is there somewhere online where I can check if the NVC has sent my case to the embassy yet or if the embassy has received it yet using my case number? I think I read something about this somewhere but I'm not sure where to find it..

As to the medical appointment, is there any more information about that in the packet n.3 that embassy will send me if anyone knows?

Thanks so you much to you all!

I believe the K1 flowchart in the guides (pinned at the top of the forum) outlines roughly how long this next stage should take, but as others have mentioned, it is embassy specific. Good luck! :)

Yes, you are able to see on here your case status https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx. If you would like to track the packet once is left for embassy go to dhl website http://www.dhl.com/en/express/tracking/shippers_reference.html. For shipper's reference put e.g. EXP 05 JAN 2015A. Date range from (use the date before) to (use the current date.)

Most likely you will receive a packet 3 from embassy with instructions in regards to medicals, interview, necessary documents etc. etc. I received my case number on the 31st so there is a chance they will ship it today :)

Cheers!!!
