I nominate Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity.

At least they are not terrorists, like Arafat.

Let's not reinvent history. If he were a bonafide terrorist, Israel and the U.S. would have never negotiated peace with him.

Really?

Because the U.S. and Israel never negotiate with terrorists?

Or dictators for that matter?

I'm not defending those two nominations, but one could argue that both Arafat and Musharraf contributed to bringing about peace, while it would be impossible to make that argument for Limbaugh who is a paid radio personality.

Okay, I don't know enough about Musharraf to make educated statements; however, I do knot a lot about Arafat, and he did nothing to further peace. If anything, he promoted constant conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. The man was a complete monster, and yet...the international community gave him the NPP. Mind boggling...

About Arafat, you hit it on the nail!

In the case of Musharraf, I'll educate you some:

  • first-generation mohajir (native speaker of urdu, from Hindi-belt area): this group didn't leave for Pakistan without having lots of hate for India in the first place
  • architect of Kargil War in 1999, he did not even show up in Lahore for the inauguration of the Delhi-Lahore bus service
  • idolises Zia ul-Haq (a real monster according to many Banglas--he was, unlike Musharraf, involved in "Operation Searchlight) and like him, removed the leader who had appointed him chief of staff (also like Zia, the previous ACOS had not considered him a good choice--both proved correct)
  • according to Altaf Hussein (leader of MQM), a sellout (to Zia, a Punjabi--no question, that he did aid in Zia's misrule of Pakistan as a whole and Sindh in particular)
  • deceiver and staller (again like Zia) when it comes to holding elections
  • really bigtime deceiver with US/UK--you remember the scandals of AQ Khan's (another first-gen mohajir) atomic smuggling network, as well as his (hollow) denials about Taliban?
  • no compunction about committing murders, singly or mass (he ordered both the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and the attack on the Bajaur madrassa which killed 80)

Even to simplify: very few Pakistani Army men (none who rose to Brigadier or higher) in service after the overthrow of Iskander Mirza (a Bengali from Murshidabad, who died in London in 1969 and was buried in Tehran--due to being DENIED burial in Pakistan) have ever used the "love Pakistan" policy over the "hate India" (this even was contributive to the 1971 civil war; the winner of the 1970 election, Mujibur Rehman, actually had such a policy).

No way Musharraf could ever be a peacemaker anywhere!

Arafat didn't win the peace prize by himself...

It was in recognition for the 1993 Oslo Accord, which included representatives of Israel as well.

I guess the question should have been whether or not the Oslo Accords were deserving of the prize...
