I'm getting married Jan 4. My husband is here (US) on a student visa. He has been working without a permit and paying for his school out of pocket because his father got sick and was not able to help all of his children out anymore. I am a student so I know I don't make enough money to sponsor him alone. So what does a co sponsor have to do and are there any guidelines? We found out that I am currently pregnant and we really can't affront paying for his extra high tuition & fees. If he doesn't return to to school at the end of the month, will that be a dangerous problem. I'm so scared for him I don't want anything bad to happen. Has anyone been in this situation? I need advice please.

A joint sponsor can be any US citizen or LPR. If he does not return to school at the required time then his school will terminate his status with SEVIS and ICE will likely come looking for him. The US government cracks down on out of status F-1 students extremely harshly now, following 9/11.
