From my own experience in Newark, NJ:

I filed the N400 in October of 2013, and by March 2014, I was a citizen. Almost exactly five months from filing. In Newark, they offer same-day oath ceremonies. At 0814 local, I was a LPR. By 1400 local, I was a citizen. Some people have waited 9 months or more before becoming citizens.

As soon as you get your Certificate of Naturalization, you can apply for a passport. As a first-time applicant, you are required to apply in person at a passport processing bureau. I got my passport 3-days after my ceremony. I went to the New York City passport office with a confirmed flight itinerary. It took them one day to produce the passport.

If you have no immediate travel plans, and you do not pay for expedite, you receive your passport within 4 weeks, if memory serves. The passport, if memory serves, cost me $130, which included the expedite fee.

The best way to find out how long you can expect is to check out some of the monthly threads and look through the timelines to find others applying through the same local field office that your application will end up going through. Look back over the last 6-8 months to see what other people's timelines look like. This will tell you how long you can expect.

i know is different for everyone.......

Enough said. Some folks get it done in 2 months, for others (like me) it took 6 months. There are so many variables: the field office; the number of applicants; the time of year; the number of ceremonies that office holds etc etc.

If I were you, I'd be looking back for a 2014 filing thread that corresponds with the month in which you intend to file then look at the timelines for any contributors that filed through your office.
