Hey guys, turns out I got a case number assigned last week. The great folks at the NVC neglected to share that information though - they were giving me different versions when I asked for updates on my case. Last night I got a really nice guy on the phone (think his name was Lance) who was able to provide all the information I needed.

One thing he said that got me a little confused is that I need to wait for the welcome letter from the NVC before I can do anything else. He asked his supervisor and apparently he confirmed that statement. I was under the impression that with the IIN and Case Number I could go in to the CEAC website and start filling out the DS-261 at least. Am I wrong?

I think he may have just meant that the DS-261 and AOS fee won't show up until they send the welcome letter.

Have you logged in to CEAC? If the fee and DS-261 is there imo you should just proceed, as there's nothing in the letter that you'll need

I logged in last night after I got the info and the DS-261 was available. Seemed strange that having access to the system I still needed to wait (up to 28 days  ) per his comment. I think I'll start filling that out...thanks!

Call this # (603) 334-0700 and try to get the case number along with the invoice identification number, good luck

Thanks for the information. I am so diappointed with this whole process. I thought that after NOA 1 approval, everything should be straight forward but apparently not.

I tried calling the number 603-334-0700 for the whole day and kept getting the massage "All our customer representatives are busy, try your call later". Late at night finally it went through and the lady asked me for my USCIS petition number. She looked it up and told me that its all approved and I need to speak with a visa specialist. I was put on hold for 30 minutes which took the call to past 9 pm pacific time i.e. 12am eastern time when their offices are closed. I hung up coz nobody would have bothered to answer after that.

I kept on trying to call today and couldnt get through. Anybody have any alternative way or any tricks to make them answer the call and provide with the case number and invoice identification number? Also, did you guys get transferred to a visa specialist to retrieve this info?

I am so angry at NVC now.

Monday I waited more than an hour and got nothing useful from a bored employee at the NVC. Then on Tuesday I waited almost 40 min. and got through, but this time I got a nice guy that was able to give me all the information I needed.

Both times I was transferred to visa specialists. I learned that my case number had been assigned almost a week ago but the employees I was talking to were not very helpful. my thoughts to you is to wait on the phone as long as you can (or need to) in order to get what you need to move on. Hang in there... good luck!
