The SLEC website says here that you must provide a "Medical certificate regarding a previously-treated or currently managed clinically significant illness". That seems pretty vague to me. They don't really define what "clinically significant" means. Anyway, my fiancee was treated when she was 19 for hypothyroidism. Does that qualify?

Probably something to do with a mental disorder that they are under treatment for.

hypothyroidism does not fall into that catergory.

If they asked her if she smoked weed or left handed cigs, make sure she doesn't admit to that either.

They are looking for communicable diseases that can spread as airborne infections in the form of a virus or bacteria.

Hypothyroid does not classify under that definition.

Thanks for this topic.

I have a thyroid problem and had undergone total thyroidectomy. Having a hard time getting records from old doctors as i have changed several times due to health insurance accreditation. Though it's not a communicable disease, does my diagnosis of papillary carcinoma will require me to produce a medical cert?

Also, my derivatives have developmental&behavioral delays. Autism to be precise. I believe this is not a mental illness as it is described as developmental (Google also). For those who have a similar situation, please enlighten me. Medical cert from developmental pediatrician may not be enough to fully and accurately describe the children's dev status as therapists does the one on one sesions while the doctor only sees us for 15mins once or twice a year and does not have time reading the therapists' notes.

Autism should not be a problem. I am a school psychologist and I have worked with many immigrant families who have kids with autism.

I would go to SLEC for your medical and they will ask the questions that they will need answers to and at that time you will tell them the truth. If they don't ask, don't volunteer. Your responsibility is only to be truthful and answer their questions.
