Savanphil,

It might be worth going into a Driving Licence Center and asking. I filled out all the papers from the PennDot site, only to be told when I got there that I didn't have to, and all they needed was my husbands passport or birth certificate.

Good luck.

Maybe we should have Amish buggy's eh broma? :P

I will look into it, Thank you.

No maybe they should invest some money in a decent public transportation system that would allow some of the idiots on the road to take public transport! ;)

It's not exclusive to immigrant drivers....jeez..get a sense of humour people!! I am 100% sure the poster (who is obviously joking so lighten up!) meant 'they' as in PA drivers as a whole, not 'they' as in immigrant drivers only. I know that because no one can drive or knows how to signal a turn in Charlotte, NC also (apart from me of course) :)

Remember, if you don't smile at jokes & you take everything seriously and be totally humourless, you might even get a job with the USCIS...wouldn't that be nice....!

oh my bad, really thanks for clarifying this. its so glaringly obvious that what is quoted below is a joke.

Glad you found the correct info, although it would make for pleasant driving in the state of PA if only citizens were allowed to drive.

What the @#$%

Only US citizen's can drive in the state of Pennsylvania :ranting:

I certaintly hope that this is not true, maybe there is an acception that I do not know about but accroding the their website:

Proof of U.S. Citizenship

You'll need to prove that you're a U.S. citizen in order to get a driver's license in Pennsylvania by producing one of the below documents. All must be original; photocopies will not be considered valid.

  • United States birth certificate with raised seal
  • Certificate of U.S. citizenship
  • Certificate of naturalization
  • U.S. passport

  • U.S. military photo identification card

This really sucks for us.....I was hoping he could get his license some time this year.

this right here shows how stupid this law is. nessa has a us military id card.

Because there would be less cars on the road....sometimes its pretty hair raising driving in PA with the amount of traffic and the way they drive

The way "they" drive? What makes you think US citizens are better drivers than non-US citizens? What a strange comment . . .

i'd much rather be on a road with a bunch of german drivers

You are kidding right? I heard that German drivers don't even consider the speed limit to exist!

Half the drivers here in Toledo/S Michigan/Detroit don't bother to signal either. It's like you'll be driving down the interstate and someone changes lanes in front of you and you're like "sure, come on over buddy!"

Also when merging onto a highway why dont drivers slow down/brake at the yield sign, my experience is that the only drivers that slow down and brake are the ones already on the highway.

I know I'm late here, but I called the PA DMV a few weeks ago and posted this:

" checked out Pennsylvania's requirements and the website said US Citizenship should was required. That would be a heck of a contrast though. In my state, they're even trying to issue licenses to ILLEGAL immigrants.
