I'm filling out the DS-260 and have got to the question about issuing a social security number.

Should I tell them to do it for me or would it take less time to get it if I just mosey on down to an Social Security office once I immigrate?

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

Looks like i got a cc... Got the N/A in the AOS part. Scan date was 11.17. No checklist and after the NOA2 to casenumber was it a very smoth process.

Congratulations Liz & Jonathan!!! :dancing: I checked your timeline and you have the same NVC recieved dates ( 10/3) as well as the same scan date 11/17 as we do. I am really feeling the anxiety today. Computing myself in circles between VJ, my email inbox & the CEAC site. The crazy part is the waiting for either good news "CC" or bad news "Checklist" knowing either could come at any time. Really happy you're through this!!! It was really nice to see (F) Yay!!! ~ smooth sailing straight through for you two :star: :star:

hey guys!

I have a question about the AOS form. I'm probably over thinking this, but again I'd rather get this all right the first time.

so, Part 3 is for listing all the family members of the principle applicant, but in my case I only have the principle applicant, so family member 1 through 5 get N/As correct?

And item 7 says to enter the total number of immigrants being sponsored on the form from numbers 1 through 6. I put a zero here because my wife is not listed in part 3 (or should she be?).

But then in Part 5 item 1 it says to put the number from line 7 of part 3, which is a zero, and then i'd put a 1 for myself in item 2, a 1 for my spouse (the immigrant) in item 3, and a 1 in item 4 for our daughter. this brings the total to 3 people, which is correct.

BUT when the joint sponsor fill this out...well my wife isn't her wife...so in part 5 she'll have a zero for item 1 a 1 for herself in item 2 and 1 for her husband in item 3...which comes to a total of 2 people...which does not include the immigrant.

Are the instructions and form just flawed? should I just include a 1 in part 3 line 7 and part 5 line 1 so the immigrant gets counted?

it seems like such a long explanation for a stupid little number, but I've heard so many stories about people getting check lists because they didn't check a box, or put a zero in the right place. Help!

I thought it was three or more checklists. At the second checklist, I am still in a series of "60 day" queues.

Good luck with a smooth cc for yourself!

Sorry....What I meant to add was the following:
I have read in previous posts that after 2 checklists people are asked to bring missing/incorrect etc... forms to interview. Is this right? Well, I have gotten an AOS checklist, and scan date for that checklist was Nov 18.

From what I heard here on this website, transcripts aren't updated after an amended tax return is processed. They'll still show the old amounts.

If you need to submit an amended return to NVC, then just provide a copy of the entire amended return, the outdated transcript, and perhaps a letter explaining why you were amending your return.

NVC doesn't issue checklists asking for transcripts. They issue checklists to people who submitted returns because they didn't provide the ENTIRE tax return (1040, W2s, 1099s, schedules, worksheets, etc). But, you're right that they do prefer transcripts (obviously, as it's less papers, more concise, and actual proof you filed your taxes), but in some instances, it may not be possible.

Thank you so much Saylin for this reply. That helps! I will simply write a cover letter and include with my Amended Tax return, as well as original transcripts. Sorry for delay in reply...been super busy with work and getting this paperwork in order. But thanks to your Wiki I feel relatively confident. :)

Since your wife is only immigrant whom you are sponsoring,

you need to put 1 for line 7 in part 3. Also, put 1 for line 1 in part 5. Enter 0 for line 3 in part 5 since you already counted your wife.

If you observe, line 7 in part 3 says to add up numbers from items 1-6 of part 3.

So, I got the 3 N/As sometimes last night I guess, saw it when I logged in this morning. Scan date was 11/18, original scan date. Is there any possibility that this means anything but a CC? Thanks.

Thank you, and wishing you the same. Hopefully after your 60 days are up, you will hear about your cc.
