place of birth discrepancy between passport and birth certificate

Hello - I am at the NVC stage. The place of birth listed on my husband's UK passport and BC do not match. The passport lists his hometown and his birth certificate lists a town about 5 miles away from there. The BC is correct and the passport is not. Any options besides getting a corrected passport? Take our chances with submitting as is? Or maybe submit an affidavit explaining the discrepancy? Thanks!

This is an unusual situation. In my case, I was born in a place that no longer exists. The town was a separate town but with the growth of cities the town has now been "swallowed up" by a large city and is no longer recognised as a separate town for postal address purposes.

Is the case with your husband that the town on the BC is now considered part of the town on his passport? If they are only 5 miles apart, it's quite conceivable that in the 18+ years since he was born (I don't know how old he is) that his birthplace is now a part of the passport town.

My neice's passport has the wrong date of birth on it. The BC has the correct date. When this was pointed out to the passport office by my brother (her father), he was told that whatever is on the passport is correct even if it's wrong. So if the passport agent mis-spells your name or enters the wrong date of birth, you have to go with that. Too bad for my niece whose passport shows that she is younger than she is that she could miss out on voting if an election is called between her real 18th birthday and her passport birthday.

I would call the passport office.
