Greetings! My fiance will be coming to Nigeria in a month so that we can get married. My question is which address should we use for her on the application? I was told it would cost significantly more if one of us lives abroad. My fiance parents reside here in a Nigeria as well so they said we should use their address. But I'm not sure how the embassy would view that. Any suggestions? We will be getting married at the registry in Ikoyi.

You have to use her address. Do not lie and use another address, but yes it will probably cost significantly more because she is a USC. My husband paid 3x as much for our wedding for that reason. It's part of the game. As far as I know, Ikoyi is the only one recognized. Good luck!

I don't know about Ikoyi being the only registry recognized by U.S. however what I can say is that I married my husband in Sapele. The validity of our marriage certificate never came into question during the immigration process. If you choose to lie on any form, regardless of the intention, it will BITE you. I'm still scratching my head at the thought that someone who wishes to become an immigrant of the U.S. is considering using a Nigerian address for his fiance, a U.S. citizen.

Well she will definitely use her US address when filing the petition. I just don't know why it would be required to use a US address on the marriage certificate. I not saying we will, but what if the petitioner previously lived in Nigeria and we married before she relocated to the US. After all, she has dual citizenship.

I checked your profile and saw your 2nd interview scheduled sometime this month, December 2014. I can't help but wonder (even more) why you ask about whether or not one should use the petitioner's address on marriage certificate. Something very sketchy here. I pray USCIS rules nail you to wall.

This is so not true. All registries in Nigeria are recognized by the embassy. All use the same marriage certificate form All legitimate In fact Ikoyi is the one the embassy hates most because t has so much fact family, fact everything. But ALL registries are recognized.

I and many others know many married all over Nigeria Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu, Owerri with no issues. So marry at whatever Registry you choose its no mater dear.

And your address really will not matter the cost because once you show up and they see you are an America whether by dress or speak they will find some way to find an extra charge to charge you. Unless you are like me and at a dang fool clown call the embassy and they beg you to stop give you the money back they were trying to extort that day on top of what you already paid and still give you the ceremony and apologize.

Don't let them play you.
