NorthArcher thank you for the beautiful email.Congratulations.Praise the Lord. Your case is one of those cases that I gave my best.I am very happy for you my dear.

Despite anyone can file Vawa without a Lawyer representing and/or reviewing the case, it's advised to have a Lawyer handling a VAWA case. Your first Vawa was administratively closed, because you tried to handle alone and made some mistakes. You have a new life ahead. Happy 2015 and much more years to come.

biankat the letter should tell you what you need to take so just be sure you have everything the letter is asking for, and I remember that there was some other stuff that Sandra told me to take, just can't remember right now lol but I'm sure she will see and let you know what you need to take.

When I went to my interview, all they asked me for was the interview letter, to see my ID, and if I had my medical exam, as I had not submitted it yet.

But with that said, if they had asked for anything else, I did have everything with me, so just be sure to take everything they are asking for in the interview letter, and whatever else Sandra says to take :)

Congrats!

You should go update it. The officer lady told me that it was very important that I make sure to go to the SS Office to notify them, and also to update my drivers license. The driveres license is only valid right now up untill EAD expires, so she said to go and update it so that they can raise the expiration to the same as the green card!

Does this apply to Illinois state as well?

Does any one know what steps we need to do after green card?any docuements to prepare for the 3 year citizenship interview?any precautions as VAWA?Will they in citizenship interview ask us any more about VAWA case and how we were humilated and hurt physically and emotionally?what steps needed from now to be prepared fro citizenship with no obstacles and with no delays?

Also do we really need to carry the green card all time?I am afraid to lose that.

According to the U.S. Immigration Laws, each 18-year-old permanent resident must always carry a green card or green card receipt. Violators will be guilty of a misdemeanor. If convicted, each offense is liable to a fine of more than $100, or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or the concurrence of the two, but the maximum fine is $500.

A country of Immigrants, that hates new Immigrants... Maybe if education was a right and NOT a luxury, it would be different.

justiceseeker in the naturalization interview they will not ask details about the abuse.

Make sure every year you file tax return, and take to the Naturalization interview the IRS transcript. If you have a DL you don't have to keep the GC with you all the time,if you do not have a driver's license then apply to get a State ID (DMV)

Thank you so much fro your rapid answers.I cannot thank you enough.Soem officers are still confused about teh 3 years rule fro applying for citizenship. Can you please sedn me what part of teh application I need to fill to show that. Please also send me any memorandum or part of the law that explains that VAWA victims can apply after 2 years and 9 month(Like pdf file).

Thanks a bunch.

As stated above, it is federal law for all LPRs aged 18 or older to carry their green card on their person at all times. Failing to do so is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $100 fine and / or up to 30 days in federal prison.

INA Sec. 264(e).
