Dodgertown, I did not get one. I am just about to start my vawa journey. However I have friends who applied for asylum and I am noticing a trend with recent vawa interviews on several forums. If this is the way they want to start processing vawa cases, it really sucks. Why prolong our suffering?

There is anything new saying that they will recommend someone for approval. Some officers say "I am recommend you for approval",other says "I am approving your case", others say "I need to review the case etc...some of them give a paper for approval recommendation, others don't, USCIS didn't change anything regarding adjudicating VAWA.

oreoluwa01 I have to disagree with you, USCIS is not prolonging anybody else suffering. Just a few Countries in the world have a path for residency through abuse. Here victims have access to shelters for victims of domestic violence, counselors, social workers, pro bono attorneys, doctors and great immigration officers doing their work. I am very disappointed when I see any foreign people criticizing here in the USA what they do not have in their own Country.Feel blessed!

Hi Amika,

Did officer give you any notices? Something like: "your file needs further review"?. My IO gave me this notice and it says to wait at least 120 days before making any inquires. If your interview went well, then probably your IO was just a newbie and needs supervisor approval first. People here have said that it can take a couple of months sometimes. So, stay positive :)

I am too waiting for AOS decision although it has "ONLY" been 2 weeks.

hi dodgertown

yes she gave me a notice, and that was a paper which was handed to me and there were two options,

1. your application has been recommended for approval. A final decision will be mailed once your case is complete.

2.Uscis is unable to complete your case at this time, your case is being continued until a final decision can be made.please see below further explanation

and then it says reason for continuance which has 5 options again

and yes in the bottom of my letter it says to allow 120 days

so probably a recommendation or a review of the case takes the same amount of time, I don't know, but I will wait patiently and keep doing my request to USCIS, I think Sandra mentioned somewhere here that it can also take 2/3 months to get the greencard(in some cases)

Amika, thank you for sharing your interview experience. I didn't have my interview yet. I recently sent AOS package based on Vawa approval and got scheduled for biometrics next week. So I have long time waiting. I never heard about recommendation of approval either. Why then she couldn't approve at interview then if she didnt send the file for further review?

I hope you will get your approval and green card very soon!!

like I said my case was complete, I also submitted a new medical examination, and fbi backround check vouluntarty since I had it with me, she didn't ask for it because she said everything is sill vailid but I just did it in case, and she said my case looks really good, everything is complete, she had everything she needed,.............probably she was new and needs her supervisor to sing it off for approval, I am positive, its probably just sitting on the desk for the supervisor to look over it............

thank you skazzka I hope I will hear from them soon as well, I wish you good luck and everything is gonna be alright, its just a matter of time :)

Can anyone tell me is it required to have a divorce decree at the time of interview? Will the IO officer ask for it before making any decisions, or it will not matter for them?

My problem is I am not sure if my divorce will be finalized before interview. Is it ok if they ask for divorce decree to say that I didn't get it yet? And not having divorce decree will that effect the decision on my case on interview?

Thank you in advance for any replies!

I think we had a little of miscommunication here. I thought you were talking about vawa = I-360, which is adjudicated at Vermont Service Center. And I meant that I've never seen VSC sending you "recommendation for approval" or anything like that.

But you were talking about AOS (Adjustment of Status) based on approved vawa, right? Well, it has been like this for awhile now. If you look at this thread as an example, the last 3 posters here who recently passed AOS (myself, Amika and DL28) did not receive 100% decision (either denial or approval) right after the interview.

In general, I think vawa AOS interview is a BIG waste of time. In my case, I did not give USCIS any new information during the interview. Did not submit any new documents. All questions, that were asked by officer were already answered before and documented in I-485 or I-360. But I waited almost 7 months and my case traveled from Vermont to Missouri and then to my local office. The AOS could have easily been adjudicated at Vermont. Form I-485 is signed under penalty of perjury, so why ask me again if I am a terrorist?

Good morning All,

There is light at the end of the tunnel; We just have to be patient.

At the end of my AOS interview I did not receive an approval or denial, just a paper saying that they were holding my case for file review and to allow them 60 days.

But, God is good. I received my green card on Saturday.

Don't lose your faith, everything will be fine. Because only God knows what we have gone through.

Again, Sandra, without your help this wouldn't be possible. A selfless, dedicated and a great human being. I have no words to thank you enough.

For all of you still waiting there is hope.

God bless!
