Guys,

What difference does it make if I hire an immigration lawyer or any representative to get my paperwork done?

Is there any special level of communication between them and uscis? I mean can they directly contact them and speed up the process? I want to weigh the benefit of it.

I was working with catholic charities with my vawa case, they did all the paperwork and all I have to do is to give them all the required documents and sign necessary forms. My paperwork got approved within 4months. It was faster than I expected.. does it have anything to do with the representative or the agency itself? I know they are uscis accredited.

No, they have no special access.

How is everybody doing. I have been lost basically because I moved from Omaha, Nebraska to Atlanta, Georgia in the middle of February. It has taken me a while to settle in the Georgia but as of now I am pretty familiar.

The last I heard from my motion to reopen and reconsider was on December 18 and my status has been like that since then. My counselor in Nebraska who I was seeing while I was is ready to write psyc eval but because I am not using a lawyer(I was reffered from agency). Therefore Sandrah I want to plz ask you to write to my counselor on the basics of the psych evaluation.I am can inbox you his emaila address.

Luckily his organization has worked on psych evaluations before

Yes, for the most part. Some people are more comfortable than others with completing these kinds of forms and gathering the required evidence. Others preference to engage an attorney and have them do it on their behalf.

There are also non-straightforward cases where specialised legal knowledge may be required in order to see what relief someone has available, and things of that nature.

Hey guys I am currently in the process of gathering the paperwork and evidence for my case and I am confused regarding the psychological evaluation as most of the clinical psychologist that I spoke too, they say that they don't work with people involved in legal or immigrations purposes..as of now I have completed 4 therapy sessions which helped a lot.. The clinical social worker that does the therapies is very nice and has more than 30 years in experience dealing with domestic violence cases I am still planning to do a few more as they help me become the person I was before... any help will be greatly appreciated Also what kind of psychological evaluation is required as there is a lot such as "full battery" or "MMPI-2". Thank you

luoboy sorry but I can't contact your counselor, my help here will not go beyond reviewing forms and answering questions.I posted here several times that I do not have time to do more than I am doing already

I posted here MANY times that before starting counseling/therapy sessions make sure the counselor/psychologist has experience drafting psychological evaluation. The counselor has to mention number of sessions, diagnosis, treatment recommended, duration of which session, topics discussed, onset of the problems. The evaluation has to describe all mental suffered with mention of month/year and describing what happened IN DETAILS. A great evaluation will have 9/15 pages.Evaluation with 2/3 pages ...forget about it.

  1. Self-petitions for legal status under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
1.Applicant:
Male married for 5 years to abusive wife.

Been in college for the past 10 years under F1 status.

Have all documents from wife including her birth certificate and our marriage certificate.

Do not have abuse made reports because never bothered to make any, maybe ignorance or fear of spouse or both.

Am not sure if this is enough of a case to file for change of status using the titled option

Wife uncooperative and not supportive of assisting with my intended change of status application

Update: Male Successfully Changed Status Through Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)

Sept 2014: Filed 360, 485, and EAD

Oct 2014: EAD card received

Oct 2014: Biometrics requested

Nov 2014: RFE needed police clearance report, for good character portion of 360

Dec 2014: RFE needed proof of Psychology Evaluation since no physical abuse had been claimed

Feb 2015: 360 being reviewed

April 2015: 360 approved

April 2015: File sent to Summit, MO

May 2015: File send to local office *******

May 2015: Interview in person local office ****

June 2015: Successfully changed status, Green Card received

I filed by myself and no attorneys but did a ton of research using these online forums.

During interview questions asked are about what your filled on 485 and a few about yourself and your spouse, all in all less than 15 minutes interview. All paperwork one sends during initial phase will be filed and if they want to ask questions it will be from that pile of paperwork in your file. Before you show up for interview, they have already filtered thoroughly through your file and have established likely the outcome. They will take your I-94 card at that interview. Also need to take with you an 894W filled form with you because it is needed.

Thought I would share with you all since I also utilized this forum to do my research. Happy trails to y'all!

Hey Mpostory,

Thanks for sharing your story. How did you know when your file was sent to Summit, MO and then to local office? Your AOS was pretty quick. People here are waiting for 5-6 months to get an interview.

Hi everyone, haven't been on here for a while. Its been very depressing to be honest. So, a lot has happened since I filed back in march. He found out where I lived, I started panicking and anxiety got worse. Then out of the blue, DCF and two police officers showed up at my door. Not sure who called, probably a neighbour. Went through hell with them because DCF case worker assumed that just because my daughter looked "normal" that she was. Was only after her behavioural therapist, a disability advocate got involved and scalded the DCF case worker for not being sensitive and knowledgeable enough about a child on her books who suffered from a terminal metabolic disease. Cut a long story short, I complained to the DCF supervisor who closed my case. The next day my parents sent me money from England, I packed up my stuff, rented a uhaul and left Florida.

I got a new place, my daughter is in school and the only thing that would make life so much better is my damn EAD card and GC.

Got an update, may 13th saying card was produced. Another update June 3rd saying card was produced AGAIN. The today it says it was mailed. I changed my address online when I moved here, but I kept the same attorney for obvious reasons. Wondering when I'll get this magical card aka EAD and if it will be sent to me or to the attorney.
