Hi Sandra. Thanks for all the help you've been providing to VJ members. Your posts are very informative. I too find it strange they won't provide me updates directly. Do you know if it usually takes longer on average for VAWA decisions when the case isn't filed along with the adjustment of status application? I'd only filed the I-360....wanted to wait for that decision first.

Hi everyone,

I filed my self petition this Jan 2015 and I was asked for additional docs (police clearance) which I submitted immediately.

I am working with catholic charities for my vawa case, but honestly, I am not satisfied with the customer service that they are providing me. They are not very open to communicate with their client and also not giving updates when asked.

So, I always try to look for some ideas online to understand how my case works. I checked my case status from uscis website and it says there that I should receive a decision or case update by May 11th. So I was expecting an update yesterday but it I never heard anything from my case manager and also uscis status check isn't updated as well. Should I rely on what is written on the website? How can I ask for an update for my case directly to USCIS?

Please advise.

Thank you so much!

No, you shouldn't rely on the website. Keep in mind VSC is taking 3 to 5 month to adjudicate Vawa applications, since you got an RFE it might take a little bit longer for you. If you want information about your case, set up an infopass appointment at your local office. If I was you, I'd just be a little more patient, wait until next month to start inquiring about your case.

They can take longer, but it should be adjudicated within 6mths max, if it has been 6mths since you applied, you can do infopass or else just wait. You never know, your letter might be on the way..just be patient. Set up infopass after 6mth mark., take care

KLOVE got me thru...

Hi blest.but.strest and mamaof3!

Thanks for your response.

Yeah, maybe I should be a little more patient.. I am just really worried about the timeline, how long am I going to wait more..

its been really frustrating to not be able to get a job, so I really want this immigration paperwork to get fixed as soon as possible.

I'm also thinking if there is any way to speed up the process?

Thanks once again.

There is no way to speed up the process. In order to get a work permit(EAD), you can file an I-485(AOS)and an I-765(EAD) while your I-360 Vawa is pending, and in about 3 months, you will receive your EAD card and you will be able to work. The downside of filing AOS and I-765 is that if your Vawa is denied, your EAD will be voided and you may be placed in removal proceedings. Edited by blest.but.strest

melanieuk it's up to you to do the exam now that your Vawa was approved or you can wait the RFE to submit. The AOS takes 2/5 months to be adjudicated.
