i may have a job overseas and my wife has a 10year GC she will be one year in the USA in a couple months if the job goes through should she apply for a 6 month re-entry not sure if we meet the guidelines I would hate for her to lose her GC if the job goes south then I would have to return to the USA until another job opens up I don't want to be separated for 1 year again

The re-entry permit is not a majic document that maintains your wife's LPR status. She must still follow the guidelines for keeping her LPR status as listed on the USCIS website. If the stay is more than 1 year but less than two years, she is required to have the re-entry permit. If a LPR is out of the US for more than 2 years than their LPR status is considered abandoned and she would need an SB-1 returning resident visa. The grey area is stays outside the US from 6 months to 1 year. Getting the re-entry permit helps show that your wife wants to maintain her LPR status. You might want to check on whether she wants to become a USC and determine how the time outside the US will impact when she can become a USC.

Just remember that a GC is for LIVING in the US and that the LPR has certain responsibilites and obligations for keeping their LPR status.
