Vaccinations & Packet 3 Questions Before Medical

Hi hi! I would ask him to send me a scan of the original but he's asleep now, lol.

This is the form he got though (so the key for what the letters stand for are listed):

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/thailand/591452/iv/ds3025.pdf

And none of the boxes are checked. Trying to decide if he should call tomorrow to follow up and see why it's like that. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! :)

The form is new but the technical instructions have not been updated to reflect the change in the results section. Not sure why the new form is done that way. Before there was the "incomplete" and "may be eligible for a blanket waiver" under it. Maybe Knightsbridge doesn't consider it complete, even with the mention of blanket waiver in parentheses. Just looking at the new form, my logic says that's the box they should check. So....I don't know.

The shots are complete. I don't even know why they put "insufficient time interval" for the Td. Well I do know, it's because the tetanus component is renewed every 10 years. (That's why he had to get that because he hadn't had one in the last 10 years.) The new nurse (since we were there) tells people you are NEVER complete because tetanus shots should be boosted every 10 years. But for the purpose of your immediate immigration to the US, ten years from now doesn't matter, does it? Right now he has had a tetanus component within the last ten years. For immigration he is complete on requirements, right?

Anyway, I think what he has should work. The shots are clearly there and I have read USCIS notes for adjudicators to not quibble about those kinds of details if the shots are in place. If he could argue for the "complete", it would be even better, but the nurse that does these doen't really understand the details of AOS and they think they are right. Maybe he could try the logic that he knows he isn't complete for life, but he is complete for entering the US within a few months and getting a greencard. Heck he could easily be a USC in 10 years.

I would definitely use it for AOS over paying a civil surgeon.

Thank you so much for looking at it and going through it. I thought something should've been checked. And of course vaccinations will technically never be complete, but for now he's pretty up to date (for immigration, at least). Based on this, I'm going to suggest to him that he calls Knightsbridge to see why neither box was checked. And we'll definitely be using this for AOS either way and crossing our fingers.

Again, thank you so much for all your help with this! Really appreciate you sharing your wealth of knowledge. I think without this site - and your K1 guide specifically - as well as your thoughtful responses, we'd be so lost in this whole process. :)

You could always tick the box yourself >_>.

I'm in the process of getting my vaccinations done that I need, so do I have to get a Td jab done if it's been more than 10 years? Andies, I noticed your fiance got an MMR shot this year, was that because he missed out getting the mumps shot when he was younger? The more injection stabbing I can avoid the better! :P I get my vaccination records next week from my GP so I'll have a better idea of what I need to get then.

It's just a copy, so if we checked the box ourselves, they could compare it to the original in our file and that would just open up a world of trouble...wish it were that easy though! lol

He got the MMR done last week (believe me, he wasn't happy with all the injection stabbings he had to deal with hahaha) just so he wouldn't have to worry about it when filing for AOS. You'll definitely know more after visiting your GP and getting your records :)

Aaah, it's a copy! What a shame! When I was trying to get on the JET programme to go to Japan my GP forgot to tick a box on a medical sheet, so I had to go in for a colour blindness test and then send a letter that literally said "she's not colour blind" to them...if I had just looked I could have ticked it myself >_<. Worse still, I didn't get the job :crying: Oh well, life went on and all worked out!

So he didn't have MMR when he was younger? My Mum assures me I did, but we'll see! :clock:

US requirements are two MMRs in your life. If there is only one as a child (or maybe mumps left out) then get a second one. But if you have no record of MMR, then get one right before the visa medical. There is a waiting period of 4 weeks between doses of MMR. So Knightsbridge would have to mark your sheet "insufficient time interval" and your second dose is waived by immigration. It was not medically appropriate on the day of the visa exam if four weeks had not passed. You would be as complete as possible the day your sheet was signed and that passes with USCIS. If somebody was pregnant, it would be medically inappropriate to get MMR, so the waiver is given. She wouldn't have to wait for delivery to get the shot to continue with immigration. Complete as medically possible on the date the sheet is signed and valid waiver reasons marked is sufficient for a K1 AOS.

Td is given to those who did not have a tetanus shot within the last 10 years, no matter if you had the full tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis series as a child. If you had no record at all, then Tdap would be the one to get.

Ok things are making much more sense, thanks! I'm a bit concerned though, I just went to my GP and asked for my vaccination records...it cost me £10 but by the sounds of it I'm going to end up getting MMR regardless and potentially Td (or Tdap) done, so was it a waste to get my records when I'm going to be getting these shots done anyway?

I don't know why they charged you, but I guess each place makes up their rules for fees.. If you get more shots then you will need proof of those or the new ones added to the record and a new print out showing everything. I wonder if you had just asked the date of your last tetanus, they would have told you the date? Ask if they plan to charge you for the shots. They don't have to give them free since it's for immigration, but most do. And a doctor appointment isn't always required. An appointment with the shot nurse or travel nurse works for many.

Plan for the shots before you make the Knightsbridge appointment. I've heard of people saying they couldn't get anything at their GP office for 3-4 weeks, so find out. Then schedule Knightsbridge less than 4 weeks after the shots so second doses won't be due yet.

If they are going to charge you, then I would be tempted to just pay at Knightsbridge and be done. I know Brits can't stand the thought of paying for anything medical, but it's the way your life will be once in the US. Good practice for the cultural shock of medical prices.

I paid health insurance in Japan and had to pay for medical care on top of the monthly charges, so while it was still a lot cheaper than the US it was my introduction to life without an NHS. I was going to call them tomorrow anyway to see if they would charge me for the shots I need, if they do and I can get them cheaper elsewhere then I'll just take my records anyway as a precaution. If they don't charge me/they're the cheapest place to get them done then I'll just ask them to hold off on the copy until I've had them done. Thinking out loud!

I'm making sure that I have everything in my hand before making the medical appointment! I like to be fully prepared and take things one step at a time. I don't have a wedding planned so I'm in no urgent rush (other than general impatience to get started with my life over the pond of course)

And here's yet another update from me on this. My fiance emailed Knightsbridge this morning to inquire why neither box was checked on his DS-3025. This was the email response he received:

Thank you for your previous email.

I can assure you that the vaccination worksheet you were given on the day of
your medical is complete. Because you are on a K1 visa you are automatically
complete to all vaccines / immunisations.

Please keep the vaccination worksheet safe as you will need it for your next
process and when in America.

Also going to keep a copy of the email as a record. Fingers crossed when we go to file AOS later this year that there aren't any issues.

Thanks again everyone, especially Nich-Nick, for all your help :)

I think they are saying in a weird way that because you are a K1 you are complete for your visa interview. (If he had zero shots he would be complete for his visa.) He wants to be complete for AOS. He wants his sheet marked like they do for a CR1/IR1 visa. I don't think they understand the AOS process and how it works for fiances and if they fill out the sheet correctly, then there is no further cost or action to be taken medically once in the US.

Are there any recent CR1s reading this who got the new DS-3025? Can you tell us how your results boxes were ticked?
